Based on the above background, the research question is How is the student's perception of the discussion methods used in the bilingual class. Based on the problem statement above, the researcher intends to find out the students' perception of the discussion method used in the bilingual class system, social and political department, Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. For the teacher, the researcher provides data on the students' perception of the discussion approach used in bilingual system lessons.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Previous Related Research Findings

The result showed that group discussion is an effective technique to increase their engagement in order to develop speaking skills. Padugupati (2017) conducted a study to determine the effectiveness of different teaching methods for developing critical thinking skills in 5th grade students in General Science. The findings show that students perceive the preparation of the discussion in the Very Good category as high as 78.61%, the submission of the discussion in the Very Good category as high as 80.05%, and the conclusion of the discussion in the Good category as high. as much as 70.42 percent.

Some Partient Ideas

Based on the previous study above, the similarity of that previous related research and this research is used for group discussions or other teaching methods. Although the differences between previous related research and this research, this research aims to find out the perception of the students in the bilingual class system of the Social and Political Department of the Muhammadiyah University of Makassar and focuses on the use of small group discussions in fluency. According to Repiso (2017), collaborative learning or group discussion involves pairs/groups sharing responsibilities, negotiating, discussing and contributing their perspectives to achieve learning goals such as a project, assignment and so on.

According to Johnston in Harmed (2013), small group discussions are one of the alternative techniques to improve and deepen students' learning and problem-solving abilities compared to standard teaching methods. Djamarah (2006) presented a rationale for the minuscule Group discussion is a method of teaching that helps students to concentrate more effectively on teaching and learning objectives by allowing peer interaction. According to Dark brown (2001), a small group discussion consists of six or fewer pupils assigned a collaborative task.

Kenz and Greg (2000) Small Group Discussion is a type of cooperative learning where students are separated into small groups and work together to maximize their own and their classmates' learning. According to the description above, the researcher will use a method of discussion in small groups as one of the alternative strategies to increase students' understanding and problem-solving skills. There are four phases of group discussion, namely “formation, storming, norming and execution” (Borich in yanse, 2016).

The researcher would then assess the students' perceptions using the small group discussion approach, which has an effect on the students' understanding of their speaking skills.

Finally, the researcher will summarize the result of the interview, which was previously transcribed. interview data to ascertain students' impressions of the methodology used in the bilingual classroom system in the social psychology department of Makassar Muhammadiyah University. The researcher recruited students from the social policy department to participate in a small group discussion. The observer joins the zoom meeting application provided by the teacher, the influence of the observer in the classroom is only a little awkward in the first place of the students, but when the teaching process was going on, the students enjoy the learning process, because of the teaching . the process is boldly used and in the application of the zoom meeting, so that the students do not pay more attention to the observer, so that the .. classroom learning process goes effectively.

To obtain factual data from students to determine their perceptions in a small group discussion. S1 : I'm kind of an invisible person when it comes to group performance, so I don't enjoy having to perform. Students' needs to understand and explore the discussion method to improve students' critical thinking and speaking skills.

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Findings

The perspective of students during the learning process using small discussion makes them feel comfortable because they can discuss effectively during the learning process. Students' understanding of the material in learning is quiet good because they are interactive with each other. The researcher found that the perception of the students is given by the good or positive perception of the students.

From the students' answers above, we can conclude that the surveyed students had an opinion about "Does your English teacher use the discussion method in your classroom?". According to the students' response above, the first student had a statement that the lecturer used. group discussion, like one class should solve the problem based on the topic given by our lecturer, that is, the lecturer does not divide the number of students in one class into several group discussions, the lecturer only gave instructions to find solutions or ideas according with agreed according to the topic, the second student had a statement that the lecturer used small group discussion to make it easier for the students to understand the material while teaching the learning process, and the third student answered that the discussion method used by my lecturer is flexible . A simple small group discussion requires students to break into small groups and democratically discuss material presented by the lecturer.

He also taught students how to think critically, analyze and then explain to their friends. According to the students' statement above, the first student in the small group discussion said that the students with the group provided many advantages, one of them was good public speaking. Based on the students' answer above, the first student said that each member of the group has the right to give their arguments, which means that each member of the group must consider all the arguments to reach the best solution, the second student said that all members of the group must be responsible to tasks and communication must go well for their group to work well, and a third student said that they should value the opinion of each member of the group and they cannot make their own decisions because the group is built to bring all opinions together to find the solution.

After approaching the group member, the students did negotiate together to find the solution to the problem.

Discussion

Some students felt that small group discussion was an effective strategy to increase students' interest in studying English. In other words, the students claimed that after joining the small group discussion, they were always inspired to speak English, they felt more confident when they spoke English, and the small group discussion can help them improve their knowledge. According to research findings by Brown (2001), a small group discussion is a group of six or fewer students who are assigned to work together.

Students believed that Small Group Discussion is an excellent strategy because it encourages and motivates students to speak in front of a large group. Small group discussion was an excellent strategy to improve children's speaking skills and instill confidence in students when they communicate their thoughts. CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Conclusion

According to the findings of the study, the researcher found that the majority of students shared the same points of view or showed interest in the style of debate applied in the bilingual class system in the social policy department. That is, students have a positive opinion of the conversational style used in the bilingual classroom system. The students demonstrated cross-group collaboration in the classroom by using the discussion approach during the learning process in the online classroom.

The discussion technique often provides and excites students to practice speaking English with their friends and share fresh knowledge and ideas. Discussion approach about something related to speaking ability, critical thinking, problem solving and how to earn the respect of students by demonstrating an argument and an idea in front of the public about the topic being discussed. It had an effect on students' understanding of their speaking skills and their ability to solve problems after using the discussion method.
