CHAPTER IV FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION
A. Findings
To collect data for this research, students participated in online interviews utilizing a Google form. The purpose of this study is to ascertain students' perceptions through the use of a small group conversation in a bilingual classroom setting. The researcher recruited students from the department of social politics to participate in a small group discussion. The data from the interview list are analyzed in accordance with the principles outlined in Chapter 3 in order to as certain students' perceptions during a small group discussion.

Physical setting in the classroom
My observation began in zoom meting application. I could see the screen of the computer, and pay attention to the participant of the class. I had a clear view

instruction from teacher. I am litterally pay attention to the classroom learning activity until at the end of the learning process.
Activities (actions and behaviors)
Learning process of bilingual class system, in social politics department, the students is really excited in learning process, every students’ confident to practice and really excited in learning process. Most of students actively in the classroom, the teacher using small discussion in the learning proces but certain students more likely unconfident to show their skill in speaking, During the teacher explain about the material, some students turn of their camera so, we cannot identify their activity, but only certain moment. The students build their excited as time is follow.
Participant point of view about Small Discussion
The students’ perspective during the learning process using small discussion feel comfort beacause they can discuss effectively during the learning process. The understanding of the students about material in learning is quietly good because they are interactive each other.
Impact observer might have had on the situation observer observed
Observer join the zoom meeting application that provided by the teacher, the observer impact in the classroom only a little bit awkward at the very first place of the students, but when learning process was running the students enjoy in the learning process, because of the learning process used daring and in zoom meeting application, so the students don’t pay attention more to the observer, so
the classroom learning process run effectively.
Summary
Students are enjoyed the learning process, and they respect each other shows by using small discussion.

b. Data Presentation Interview
Interview is part of students perception of discussion method in bilingual class system. The students perception towards discussion method used in bilingual class system. The researcher found that students perception was given by the students made good or positive perception of the students. In this explanation, the researcher just took two or three answers from students that represented the other students’ answered because their answer were similar and almost same, the differences just from the sentences structure and the diction. It would be explained the answer further as followed:
a. The Student’ Perception in a Small-Group Discussion
In order to get the actual data from the students to find out student’s perception in a small-group discussion. The researcher had asked the students by interviews. The findings of each interview are listed out in description below:

1) Does your English lecturer use discussion method in your classroom?
Based on the interview that carried out by the researcher to the students, with the question “Does your English lecturer use discussion method in your classroom?” most of the students answered as follows:
S1 : Sometimes my lecturer used discussion method and sometimes they also used Teacher-and-Student method
S2 : My class frequently used discussion method in every subject S3 : Some of my lecturer used discussion method
In the students' answers above, it can be concluded that the students interviewed had an opinion on "Does your English lecturer use discussion method in your classroom?” The first student answered
‘yes’, sometimes my lecturer used discussion method and the second student also answered ‘yes’, the lecturer used discussion method in every subject not only in English subject, as in the case with the third student answered ‘yes’, the lecturer used the discussion method in teaching learning process.
2) What kind of discussion method that your lecturer used?
Based on the interview that carried out by the researcher to the students, with the question “What kind of discussion method that your lecturer used?” most of the students answered as follows:
S1 : My lecturer used group discussion like one class should solve the problem based on the theme that our lecturer gave
S2 : A small group discussion
S3 : The discussion method that my lecturer used is flexible. He just gave us one material to be discussed and divide the group. Each group will be presented one by one.
Based on the students’ answer above, the first student had a statement the lecturer used group discussion like one class should solve the problem based on the theme that our lecturer gave, it’s mean the lecturer doesn’t divide the number of students’ in one class into several group discussion, the lecturer only gave instructions to find out solutions or ideas according to the agreed based on the theme, the second student had a statement the lecturer used small group discussion to make students’ easier to understanding the material during teaching learning process, and the third student answered the discussion method that my lecturer used is flexible. The lecturer just gave them one material to be discussed and divide the group. Each group will be presented one by one and when at the end of discussion the lecturer gave us constructive suggestions, so the next discussion can be even better.

3) What do you think about Small-Group Discussion?
In the students' answers above, it can be concluded that the students interviewed had an opinion on "What do you think about Small-Group Discussion?” most of the students answered as follows:
S1 : In my opinion, a small group discussion is really effective for students who haven’t had the courage to speak up in public. It could also train them to improve their speaking skill and problem-solving skills.
S2 : Small-Group Discussion provides an opportunity for students to share ideas or opinions without having to discuss the whole class.
Small-Group Discussion revolves around the level of structure. A simple small group discussion asks the students to divide into small group and democratically discuss the material given by the lecturer.
S3 : In my opinion, Small-Group Discussion is an excellent method because it makes us easy to set and divide the material of discussion.
It also taught the students to think critically, analyzing and then giving explanation to their friends.
Depend on the students’ statement above, the first student said the small group discussion that the students provided a lot of advantages from the group, one of them was being good public speaking. As we know that, public speaking is one of the important skill part that should
be mastered and also problem solving skill. The second student had statement through Small-Group Discussion, the student should learn how to use opportunity by speaking to share ideas or opinion without fear to make mistakes, and democratically discuss the material, and the third student answered had an agreement if the Small-Group Discussion is a good method that can make the students’ to think critically because the main objectives of Small-Group Discussion was to educate the student to analyzing, giving explanation to their friends and problem solving. This means that if students want to be more competent in discussion, speaking and build confidence, the small group is a perfect place to start practiced.
4) How do you choose your group members?
In the students' answers above, it can be concluded that the students interviewed had an opinion on "How do you choose your group members?” most of the students answered as follows:
S1 : The way I choose my group members is to see if the person is active and willing to help each other
S2 : I choose people who can certainly be invited to discuss and collaborate
S3 : It usually random selection of group members by class president

Based on the students’ answer above, the first student answered the way choose the group members is to see if the person is active and willing to help each other because with the members group that have a motivation and active, it could make the group actively when discussion is beginning, the second student had statement the way choose the group members is people who can certainly be invited to discuss and collaborate because during discussion the group members have to work together by exchanging ideas to generate ideas and solutions which are conveyed to other groups and the third student said the way choose group members is random selection of group members by class president, this conduct because there is no jealousy between group discussion caused to the uneven divided of members, it’s mean there are groups who had all active members and there are also groups who had members who are mostly passive when conducting discussion especially in Small-Groups Discussion.
5) How do you feel about yourself on your group discussion?
In the students' answers above, it can be concluded that the students interviewed had an opinion on "How do you feel about yourself on your group discussion?” most of the students answered as follows:
S1 : Fun. We can offer ideas, reason with one another, respect with one another, and so on
S2 : I feel more confidence because whenever I get an obstacle I have friends who always give me a solution to overcome it
S3 : Sometimes I’m getting bored when some of my group members didn’t want to share their opinion. Because of their character, it can hinder the completion of the task but I tried to reach our group-target with building motivation and leading my group members
Based on the student’s answer above, the first student had statement feel fun because can offer ideas, reason and build an argument with one another and respect each another group members when showed the presentation or showed the argument. The second student said they feel more confidence during discussion process because whenever they get an obstacle, they have friends who always give a solution to overcome it and the third student answered they sometimes getting bored when some of group members didn’t want to share their opinion because the character didn’t want to share the opinion and some of the group members lazier to search some references that can help group to the completion of the task.
6) What the regulations on your group?
S1 : Each group member has the right to speak their arguments and considering all the argument from each group member

S2 : All the group member have to work together, be responsible toward the task, and the communication between each other should be going well
S3 : We should appreciate the opinion of each group member and we can’t make our own decision
Based on the students’ answer above, the first student said each group member has their right to speak their arguments which is each group member also have to consider all the argument to reach a best solution, the second student said all the group member have to be responsible toward the task and the communication should be going well in order their group worked out well, and the third student said they should appreciate the opinion of each group member and can’t make their own decision because the group built to bring all the opinion together to find a solution.
7) How do you deal with the regulations on your group?
S1 : Consider all opinion that come out and deliberation for the outcome of the decision
S2 : I do analyze the rules well and follow the existing rules
S3 : When I joined a group it means I’m ready to communicate with another group members and every group have the regulation to obey and I accepted all the regulations that exist
Based on the student’s answer above, the first student answered that considering all the opinion that come out and deliberation for outcome of the decision to get a problem solving toward the problem that the student face, the second student answered that they analyzed the rules and follow the existing rules in order they easier and enjoy joining the group which well-organized, and the third student answered that they ready to communicate with another group members and every rules or regulation that exist need to obey by the group members.
8) How do you do to solve the problem on your group discussion?
S1 : By searching and finding supporting and related data and ideas to find solutions to solve the problem
S2 : Looking for solution by issuing all the best opinion and taking the best decision
S3 : Doing deliberation. If there is a problem in my group, I did approach to every group member and negotiating to find the solution
Based on the student’s answer above, the first student said searching and finding the related data that support the problem that they faced to

find a solution to overcome the problem, the second student said looking for solution by issuing all the opinion and taking the best decision, so the group members should speak up their opinion and then considering every opinion to make a decision, and the third student said doing deliberation with approaching every group members. After approaching the group member, the students did negotiate together to find the solution of the problem.
9) How do you feel when you are performing on your group?
S1 : I’m the kind of invisible person when it comes to perform in group so I’m not enjoyed when I have to perform
S2 : I feel confidence and capable to communicate because I have prepared for presentation before
S3 : Sometimes I feel bad when my opinion or argument can’t be accepted by my group members but I instilled in myself that not everyone have thoughts like us that’s why difference opinion must be accepted
Based on the student’s answer above, the first student said the she is the kind of invisible person so she was not really enjoy when it comes to perform, the second student said that she really enjoy performing in the group because she already prepared for the presentation, she felt confidence and capable to communicate when she was perform, and
the third student said sometimes he felt bad because his argument can’t accepted by his group member, but he instilled that not everyone has the same argument like him so difference answered must be accepted.
10) In your opinion, why discussion method could improve your speaking skill?
S1 : By doing discussion we are more motivated to express our argument and opinion, we also trained to increase the solidarity where difference opinion is not an obstacle, precisely it makes our group better
S2 : Because with the discussion we can learn to speak up in front of others and make us realize what shortcomings we have when speaking in front of many people and of course it will be a lesson for us to be able to improve our speaking skills
S3 : Doing discussion makes people show their ability to speak and we can see the potential in themselves. In discussion, we also can establish the communication, having social interactions with others, and we can train and develop our thoughts and ideas by using spoken language
Based on the student’s answer above, the first student answered that doing discussion are more motivated to express their argument and opinion, he also claimed that he trained to increase the solidarity

where difference opinion is not an obstacle, precisely it makes their group member appreciated each other, the second student answered that with the discussion she can learn to speak up in front of others and make her realize the shortcomings that she had when speaking in front of many people and she also said that it was exactly a lesson for her to improve her speaking skill, and the third student answered that doing discussion makes people show their speaking ability and they can see the potential in themselves. He also said that discussion can establish the communication, having social interactions with others, and also can train and develop their thoughts and ideas by using spoken language.
