Trauma Performance Improvement Interview Questions

Can you tell me about how your program measures the quality of trauma care
?a. ***What indicators/measures do you use? (Only ask if not submitted, EG. Time to CT Scan, Tracking forms, Prehospital times, etc)
b. How did you decide on those Particular indicators/measures?
c. Have you tested/evaluated your indicators/measures? How?
d. Do you have a sense if these indicators are working well? How do you know that?
e. Are there any indicators/measures that you should abandon, modify or add?
f. What are the attributes of a successful Quality Indicator?
2. How do you use your quality of care indicators/measures for performance improvement? In other words, how is the data you collect translated to action?
a. ***We are specifically interested in the following activities. You mentioned on the survey that your program uses __________. Can you tell me about how you use__________? We are also interested in which programs use these other activities.

3. How does your quality/performance improvement program work?
(I think you have already answered #3 but is there is a sub question I’d like to ask).a. What resources are available for measuring quality of trauma care (e.g. personnel, databases, rounds/conference, meetings, etc)?
b. Who do you identify as the manager or leader responsible for measuring the quality of trauma care?
c. Who do you identify as the manager or leader responsible for the quality of care delivered to patients?
d. To whom is the program accountable for quality of care it delivers?
e. Is participation in quality measurement and improvement voluntary?
f. If key stakeholders do not participate in performance improvement what can you do to motivate? (What if they don’t keep their charting records, etc?)
g. Are there any Privacy Laws that impact your program?
4. Given ideal circumstances, is there anything that your program could be doing differently to improve the quality of trauma care?
5. Quality of care may mean different things to different people. What does quality of care mean to your trauma centre?
a. Does your trauma program have a definition of Quality of care?
b. Do you have a trauma program mission statement that includes a reference to quality of care? (IF yes, could they send it to us?)
6. What do you think about performance improvement strategies - do they work? WHY?
