The purpose of this research is to know if Cloze Procedure strategy can improve the students' comprehension ability. The result of this research shows that in the first cycle the average of pre-test score was 63.46 and post-test score 67.30. The score improved 6.73, it can be concluded that the use of cloze procedure strategy can improve students' reading comprehension ability in the seventh grade of SMP Wiratama Kotagajah Central Lampung.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah strategi prosedur Cloze dapat meningkatkan keterampilan membaca siswa. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa strategi cloze procedure merupakan strategi yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa kelas VII SMP Wiratama Kotagajah Lampung Tengah. Terwujudnya skripsi ini tentang “Meningkatkan Keterampilan Membaca Siswa dengan Memanfaatkan Strategi Prosedur Tertutup di SMP Wiratama Kotagajah Lampung Tengah” tidak akan tercapai tanpa bantuan dan dukungan dari berbagai pihak yang sangat membantu.

This strategy will give the teacher an idea of ​​the students on the material presented. With the cloze procedure, a teacher can also know that the text is too difficult or not for the students. The preliminary study had conducted on April 13, 2017, the researcher got data from the observation, that is, the students mostly in seven grades in SMP Wiratama Kotagajah Central Lampung such as: (1) the students have problems in reading the narrative text.

Based on the problem above, the researcher wants to investigate whether there is improvement in the students' reading comprehension through the use of cloze procedure strategy at the seventh grade of SMP Wiratama Kotagajah Central Lampung. Can the Cloze Procedure Strategy Improve the Students' Reading Comprehension of Narrative Text in the Seventh Grade of SMP Wiratama Kotagajah Central Lampung?. The purpose of the research is to improve the students' reading comprehension through the use of cloze procedure strategy at the seventh grade of SMP Wiratama Kotagajah Central Lampung.

Based on the above statements, the author concludes that reading comprehension ability is the process of students how to understand the main ideas of the text and implement them in the text. Many of the reading comprehension strategies that have been linked to an effect on students with learning disabilities are those that teach students strategies that encourage them during and after reading. The test can be a reference for the teacher to determine the progress of the students based on the results of the students and to motivate the students to improve their language skills, especially in reading comprehension.

Set the scene: where and when the story happened and introduce the participants of the story, who and what is involved in the story. Based on the statement above, the author concludes that the generic structure of narrative text can help to know what type of text is being read or analyzed.

Based on the above statements, the writer concludes that the closing procedure is a paragraph or text that needs to be provided with the right words so that the paragraph can be understood. The Cloze procedure assessment requires the use of only one or two sentences with one or two important words omitted. ESL students' explanations of answers allow the teacher to determine whether the student has learned the rules of the language.

If the cloze procedure indicates that students are at frustration level (text is too difficult), an easier text should be used. In the study, the teachers focus on the students' word choices to evaluate reading comprehension. Students will answer each question by filling in the blank sentences with the choice of words used answered.

Action Hypothesis

Students who score 34-50 percent correct are within the instructional level (the student can be successful with teacher assistance), but may need enrichment activities in conjunction with the text to ensure success.

The object of the research is the use of Cloze Procedure can improve students' reading comprehension. During the observation, the teacher must be able to analyze the learning process, the students' activities. teacher performance, material and simulation outcome. The table above was the result of the pre-test, where it could be seen that the results of the students' reading comprehension ability were.

This was the reason why the researcher used Cloze Procedure strategy to improve students' reading comprehension skills. The above table showed that the result of the students' reading comprehension ability in the post-examination cycle I was not satisfactory. Based on the pretest and posttest cycle I score table above, the researcher found that the students' score improved, the mean was 63.46, and the posttest I was 67.30.

Based on the result of the post-test cycle I, it can be seen that the average grades of the students in the pretest 63.46 and in the posttest I 71.53. Based on the students' result in cycle I, the researcher prepared the lesson plan, material, media, answer sheet observation sheet and test for pre-test and post-test II. b. The researcher used the observation sheet and the observation table of students in cycle II.

It showed that the Cloze Procedure strategy used could improve the students' reading comprehension. Based on the observation table of the students in cycle I and cycle II, it was seen that the activities of the students had improved. It means that using the Cloze procedure strategy can improve the students' reading comprehension.

At this meeting, in order to know the students' reading comprehension ability, the researcher administered a pre-test, which consists of 5 essays and 10 fill-in-the-blank tasks. The result from the students' reading score table only 8 students passed the MCC (Minimum Completeness Criteria). It showed that the result of the students' reading comprehension ability in the pretest was not satisfactory.

In this meeting, they started by praying together, and then the teacher checked the students' attendance and asked the students' condition. The criteria for students' success in mastering the material was students who got the minimum score that was 70, and the class could be said to be successful in mastering the material if 70% of the students scored at least 70. Based on the above table, the researcher said. concluded that the result of the post-test can meet the minimum standard (MS) at SMP Wiratama Kotagajah where students) who got more than 70 points.

The researcher used the observation sheet and the table of the students' observation sheet in cycle I. In this meeting, he started with prayer together, and then the teacher checked the students' attendance and asked the students' condition. In the second meeting, the researcher gave a post test to know the improvement in cycle II.

In cycle II, the students were also active in answering the questions based on the story.

Merespon makna dalam percakapan transaksional (getting things done) dan interpersonal (bersosialisasi) dengan menggunakan ragam bahasa lisan sangat sederhana secara akurat, lancar dan berterima untuk berkomunikasi dengan lingkungan terdekat. Merespon makna gagasan yang terkandung dalam teks lisan fungsional pendek sangat sederhana secara akurat, lancar dan berterima untuk berkomunikasi dengan lingkungan terdekat. Mendengarkan dan menanggapi percakapan tentang makna tersirat dalam ungkapan fungsional pendek berupa instruksi, daftar belanja, kartu ucapan, pengumuman.

Perhatikan kosakata dan tata bahasa yang mungkin muncul dalam arti eksplisit ungkapan fungsional singkat berupa petunjuk, daftar belanja,. Mendengarkan dan memberikan jawaban pengantar tentang makna gagasan teks lisan fungsional pendek sesuai dengan topik materi yang akan dipelajari. Memahami makna teks esai berbentuk report, story secara akurat, lancar dalam konteks kehidupan sehari-hari.

Kompetensi Dasar: 11.1 Memahami dan menanggapi makna teks esai dengan menggunakan ragam bahasa tulis secara akurat dan lancar dalam teks berbentuk narrative.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS

Conclusion

Based on the result of the analysis of chapter IV, it can be seen that in cycle I the mean score of pre-test cycle I was 63.46 and the mean of post-test in cycle I was 67.30. Using the Cloze Procedure strategy in teaching reading, especially reading comprehension, can improve the reading comprehension of students in the 11th graders of SMP Wiratama Kotagajah Central Lampung. The students have more fun in the English learning process because the Cloze Procedure strategy can help them read the text.
