Title: The use of documentary film in BBC VCD as an alternative medium in improving students' writing skills Report (A pre-experimental study at the eleventh student of SMA Mahaputra Tello, Makassar. Writing as one of the skills students need to master and sometimes difficult to be taught. From the background above, the researcher formulated the research question which can be stated as "What is the writing performance ability of the students in report text by using documentary films in BBC VCD. The purpose of this study was to find out the improvement of the students' report writing ability by using the documentary films in BBC VCD as alternative media.

The importance of this study was divided into two parts, for students and for the teacher theoretically and practically.

REVIEW OF THE RELATED LITERATURE

To find out the average test score of the students, the researcher used the formula. It means that there was an improvement in the students' ability to write reports after being taught using documentary film in BBC VCD as a medium. It means that there was an improvement (58.69%) in the students' ability to write reports after being taught using documentary film on BBC VCD as the medium.

The description of the previous section showed that the students' ability to write report texts has improved. This was supported by the fact that the average post-test score on students' ability to write report text was higher than before the test. The test consisted of pre-test, treatment and post-test to measure the students' ability to write report after using documentary film in BBC VCD. The use of documentary film in BBC VCD as alternative media in the teaching of report texts was not effective in improving the students' ability to write report texts. 1 shows that the students' ability to write text reports as the result of calculating students' pre-test and post-test after teaching using the documentary film in BBC VCD as a media.

The improvement of students' ability to write the topic content is shown in the table below. 2 shows that the improvement in content score as a result of pretest and posttest calculation of students' report writing ability using BBC VCD documentary film as media. The students' score for writing the topic organization is shown in the table below.

This means that there was a significant difference in the students' writing ability before and after using documentary films in BBC VCD as media. The students' post-test scores were higher than the average students' pre-test scores. Then the students' ability to write report texts could be enriched by using the BBC VCD documentary as a medium.

To answer the research question in the previous chapter, the researcher conducted a test that students took twice. It means that the students' average post-test score was higher than the students' average pre-test score. 3 shows that the student improved the evaluation of the organization as a result of calculating the pretest and posttest of the students at.

To know the significance level of the pre- and post-test, the researcher used t-test analysis at the significance level (p) = 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) = N-1, where N=number of the subject (30 students), then the value of t-table 2.045. 4 shows that the t-test value was greater than t-table (T-Test> T-Table), the final result showed that the t-test value for the final score of the students. It was also said that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted.

After calculating the score, the researcher found that the students' ability to write content improved 105.35% from the average score of 37.33 in the pretest to 76.66 in the posttest. After calculating the score, the researcher found that the students' ability to write the organization improved 117.58% from the average score of 36 in the pretest to 78.33 in the posttest. The use of BBC VCD documentary film was effective to use as a media in teaching report writing because there was a significant difference between students' writing progress when they were taught using BBC VCD documentary film as media and when they they weren't.

It was proved that there was significant difference between the result of the students' pre-test and post-test in that the value of t-test was greater than the value of t-table(Ttest value (11.99)> Ttable -value They can use the BBC VCD documentary as a medium to motivate students to learn English especially in writing The teacher should give more chances and guide writing practice as the one way to develop students' writing ability in the class.
