Sales Tax Reminder on Purchases
Alfred University is a tax-exempt organization within New York State. Any merchandise shipped to AU from another state is considered a tax-exempt purchase.
There is a separate form for NYS hotel tax exemption.
All of these forms are available on the Procurement Services website.
The University is also tax exempt in the following states for merchandise purchases: Connecticut, Florida, and Massachusetts. These exemption certificates cannot be used for hotel stays.
The University is also tax-exempt in New Jersey for both merchandise and hotel accommodations.
At the time of a purchase the cardholder must tell the vendor they are tax-exempt and present a tax exemption certificate if necessary. If the cardholder does not attempt to mention the tax exemption, it is their responsibility to contact the vendor after the purchase has been made for the credit. Most vendors will credit back the tax once they receive a tax exemption form.
For most Internet purchases you make you will see sales tax at the final checkout so you will need to contact the vendor to receive the sales tax credit. You will need to supply the vendor with the order number and a completed (vendor name and date) tax exemption form.
We cannot stress how important it is to let the vendor know at the time of purchase that you are making a tax-exempt purchase for your organization. These additional costs are also depleting your departmental budget.
The tax exemption certificates are available on the Procurement Services website link listed below under forms.

Option for Best Buy Purchases
Office and Procurement Services is a member of the Best Buy Tax-Exempt Quick Card Program. This program provides tax exemption in a quick and seamless way when purchasing in-store, without the need to produce a tax exempt certificate.
For on-line purchases, the card will enable the University to take advantage of its tax exempt status, which was not previously an option.
An individual may sign the card out for a 24-hour period. If you have any questions please contact OPS at x2698.

'Animalia'
"ANIMALIA"
Exhibition Dates: April 25 - Aug. 2, 2013 Museum Reception: Thursday, April 25 Time: 4:30-6 P.M.
Location: Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramic Art Cost to Attend: Free
This exhibition highlights some of the animal representations in the Museum's permanent collection.
These owls, snakes, various birds, elephant, dogs and tapir, to name a few, are each made of ceramics by various artists.
The artists include Alanna DeRocchi, Bruce Gholson, David Weinrib, Linda Cordell, Matthew Metz, Akio Takamori, Peter Morgan, Beth Low, Shoko Teruyama, Kurt Weiser, and Jenny Lind.
Some of the animals are freestanding on all fours while others are on just two. Others are in low relief, cleverly growing from a vessel and another's head becomes the finial of a lid. There are examples of animal images utilizing the sgraffito 14th and the 21st centuries and others with two-dimensional rendering in slip or glaze.
A Peruvian zoomorphic pot made more than one thousand years ago will share the gallery with an object representing the same animal, but produced last year - reminding us again of the long history of clay's interaction with the life forms sharing our earth.

Multiple Sclerosis Walk 2013 - The Grey DOES Matter - Please Read
It is time for everyone touched by MS to share information and raise awareness about multiple sclerosis.
I will be walking in Walk MS 2013 in Wellsville on Sunday, May 5, 2013. Please use the link below to make a donation to the National MS Society for me and my team, 50 Shades of Grey Matter.
I have personally seen what the National MS Society has done and will do for local people suffering from MS. They will pay for the uninsured person's medication if needed, they provide transportation to and from appointments, they provide free workshops, (I have attended a yoga for people with
limitations workshop, and a managing MS pain workshop) they have even offered to remodel one woman's bathroom so she will be able to get into her shower.
If a person with MS needs anything, all you have to do is call them and they will be there to provide help and support.
You can also join the team to walk with me on May 5 or you can start your own team. Sign up, pledge, donate. MS needs a cure. The grey DOES matter!
