DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY AND POLITICAL SCIENCE ASSOCIATION REPORT-2019-2020

The History association activities of the academic year 2019-2020 began in June 2019. The association conducted various enriching programmes to accrete the academic and interpersonal skills of students.

The department conducted first its programme as environment protection with an awareness class on ‘Method of Making Vegetable Gardens’ and distribution of vegetable seeds to students by Valsa.M.A, Assistant Professor and Head on 05/06/2019.

Civil service coaching started with an orientation class on 29th June 2019 which was addressed by Sr.Valsa.M.A, Assistant Professor. Dr. K.M Francis, Rtd.Associate Professor in Economics, St. Thomas College, Thrissur, Muhammed Yaseen, faculty from Kerala state Civil Service Academy, Calicut, etc. were some of the eminent personalities for coaching students to prepare for civil service exam.

The Skill oriented certificate course on Fashion designing (Teacher-Ancy), Stitching (Sheela Teacher) and ‘Fundamentals and basics of Computer and Information Technology were started by the department for the benefit of students.

Department add-on course –‘Foundation course on Human Rights’ started by Advocate Jayasree on 29/06/2019. Under the programme ‘Skill test’, incubation and start-up started to make paper pen and dream catcher by students of the department in June 2019. Linkage and collaboration made with world air holidays and Historical research society, Thrissur in June 2019 to accelerate the research aptitude of students and start up initiatives. For enriching the talents of students, an exhibition was organised on 25th June 2019.

In connection with Anti-Narcotic day, a placard making competition was organised on 15th July which was spearheaded by Arun K.K, Asst. Professor in History (contract). An Anti-narcotic campaign was held on 16th July 2019 at Anjangadi Kadappuram for making awareness about its repercussions.

An Extempore speech was conducted in connection with nature conservation day on 28th July 2019.

The official inaugural ceremony of association was illuminated on 6th August 2019 by Dr. Sivadasan .P, controller of examinations, university of Calicut.

‘Nilaboorilekkoru kaithangu’ was actively supported by department. The students and faculty were participated in it to console the flood affected people at Nilamboor on 15th August 2019. As part of the anti war campaign on Hiroshima Day, Sadakko crane collage making competition was organised on 20th August 2019.

Our students secured First place in mime competition conducted by Chavakkad block at Chavakkad Kadappuram in connection with World Population day on 22nd August 2019.

In connection with Keralappiravi, the students prepared a handwritten magazine, ‘Historia 2019-20’. Ayyankali day observed with ‘PPT’ competition on 2nd september2019.

Tourism club was inaugurated by Mr.Nisar, World Air Holidays, and Kunnamkulam on 03-09-2019. A seminar on ‘Happy learning’ was conducted on the same day to students by J. Navas Kooriyad.

Dept of History conducted debate on patent and IPR on 4th September 2019.

As part of the tourism club, Debate on scope of tourism was organised on 5/09/2019.A grand harvest festival, Onam was celebrated on 6th September 2019.

MOU made with world air holidays and Historical research society Thrissur in September 2019. Peer teaching, debate, discussion and awareness seminars were conducted by research club.

The department launched ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ from 23rd September to 27th September 2019, a massive awareness and mobilization campaign with special focus on plastic waste awareness and management.

Anti-plastic awareness seminar provided to students by Arun.K.K, Assistant Professor of the department. A plastic free campaign conducted and cleaned the premises of the college and nearby road till Aryabatta College.

The students planted the seedlings of Mangrooves on the banks of Peringavu River to prevent the threat of flood on 27/09/2019.

In connection with world Tourism day, a field trip was conducted to Chettuva fort on 27/09/2019. The students of History and B.Voc Tourism visited the houses of the locality near to Chettuva fort to deliver anti-plastic awareness.

An Extension Expo competition conducted with co-operation of students and faculty on 31st August 2019 and secured consolation prize. Research club members conducted seminar of students, debate, and discussion in every month.

A national seminar on women empowerment was conducted on 1st October 2019. Its academic extension lectures were addressed by Avinu Veronica Richa, Asst. Professor, Department of Women studies, RGNIYD, Sreeperumpadoor, Tamilnadu. and Dr. Molly Kuruvila, HOD and associate Professor, Department of Gender studies, Calicut University.

In connection with Gandhi Jayanthi, an Essay writing competition was conducted on 3rd October where150 articles on Gandhi were collected from students in connection birth centenary of Gandhi and made as an archival record.

A national seminar on ‘Dimension of Gender equality in contemporary society’ was conducted on 15th October 2019.

Harvesting of Karanellu was inaugurated by our Principal and done by the Haritha club members of department.

In connection with the national integration day, an awareness seminar was conducted on 30th October 2019 by Mr. Denny Thomas. This grand occasion was made memorable with a pledge by our principal, Rev. Sr. Dr. Philo Jees.

On November 6th, research club of the department established “Chair” for Annie Mascreene, the freedom fighter of Kerala and made first lecture series by Dr.

George Alex, Rtd Associate Professor, St. Thomas College, Thrissur.

As a part of the observance of constitution day, a seminar was organised on 26th November 2019 which was addressed by Mr. Denny Thomas, Asst. Professor (contract), and Dept of political science. Awareness seminar, discussion and debate were conducted on 27/ 11/ 2019 on the topics such as fundamental rights, fundamental duties, National Integration, etc.

Haritha club members of the department were engaged in Plantain vegetation with great interest and planted seedlings. As part of the research club, Debate on national integration and debate on fundamental rights and duties was conducted on 28/11/2019.

On 29/11/2019 debate on national integration was organised. An awareness seminar on national integration was arranged on 29/11/2019. Dr. Justin PG, Asst.

In contexts of the one week observance in connection with world disabled day, Department has conducted several programmes to extend solidarity with disabled students and promote the rights and well being of students with disabilities on 3rd December 2019.

Quiz competition was conducted by departments of Sanskrit, Politics and History in connection with the 150 birth anniversary of Gandhi on11/12/2019.

Department has honoured our one of the differently abled student Anakha of I BA History for secured second runner-up in the ‘Miss Kerala special’ on 12th December 2019.

Faculty of department celebrated Christmas with the marginalized on 25th December 2019.

Our three students secured first three positions in an essay writing competition conducted by department of Sanskrit on the topic ‘Susthiravikasanam ente Keralathinu’ on4/01/2020.

As part of the Swachatha Pakwada the day was observed with cleanliness drive and weeding out library books with the help of students and faculty on21st january2020.

In connection with Republic day, an awareness seminar and Quiz competition were conducted by the department on 22/01/2020.

World Peace day observed with Gandhismruthi and seminar on Gandhi darsan by Ms. Remya.M.T. , Assistant Professor, Department of History on 30/01/2020.

In connection with International Women’s Day, an essay writing competition was conducted on the topic topic “Sthreesaktheekaranam samudhayaunnamanathinu”
