NEBRASKA STATE EXPORTS
# In 1999, Nebraska’s goods exports were $2.1 billion, up 28 percent ($465 million) from 1992. During 1999, Nebraska was the 38th largest state exporter of goods.
# In 1999, Nebraska’s jobs supported by goods exports were an estimated 5.5 percent (1,354 jobs) lower than 1992.
U.S. jobs supported by goods exports pay 13 to 16 percent higher than the national average wage.
# In 1991, the latest year available, Nebraska exports accounted for 13.1 percent of its manufacturing output and represented 13.7 percent of its total manufacturing employment.
# Nebraska’s exports of manufactured products were down by 5 percent between 1993 and 1999 (from $1.8 billion in 1993 to $1.7 billion in 1999).
# The five largest manufacturing sectors in terms of Nebraska’s exports were: Food Products ($725.5 million of exports in 1999), Electronic and Electric Equipment ($192.0 million),Industrial Machinery and Computers ($191.7 million), Transportation Equipment ($154.8 million), and Chemical Products ($114.2 million). These five sectors accounted for 64 percent of the state’s total exports in 1999.

# Nebraska is the country’s third largest agricultural exporting state, shipping $2.9 billion in agricultural exports abroad or 5.9% of the U.S. total in FY 1999. The largest export categories, feed grains, and live animals and meat (excluding poultry), accounted for 60 percent of Nebraska’s agricultural exports in FY 1999.
# Total exports from Nebraska to NAFTA countries in 1999 were 68 percent higher than 1993 (pre-NAFTA), rising from $449.6 million in 1993 to $753.5 million in 1999. During 1999, Canada was Nebraska’s largest export market, while Mexico was Nebraska’s third largest market. Exports to Canada in 1999 were 44 percent ($170.3 million) higher than 1993, to $555.3 million in 1999. Exports to Mexico in 1999 were 207 percent ($133.6 million) higher than 1993, to $198.2 million in 1999.
# In 1999, total exports from Nebraska to Japan were 66 percent ($620.9 million) lower than 1993, to $318.7 million in 1999. During 1999, Japan was Nebraska’s second largest export market.
# In 1999, total exports from Nebraska to the European Union were 71 percent ($148.4 million) higher than 1993, to
$357.5 million in 1999.
