Institute has excellent facilities for indoor and outdoor games (football, cricket, basketball, lawn tennis, volleyball in sports ground in front of Vasant Hostel for students). The office of the Institute for Radiological Safety, which operates, takes care of the acquisition of radioisotopes and biomolecules for research, the regular collection of waste and their safe disposal in a designated protected area. All of them coexist in absolutely peaceful, friendly relations with harmony since the establishment of the institute more than a century ago. The socio-cultural organization also provides education to the children of workers who work in various construction works of IARI.

Title of practice: PUSA Decomposer Technology for agri-waste management
The Pusa Decomposer plays an important role in the decomposition of paddy straw in situ and ex-situ. For on-site management, harvesting paddy straw with a combine followed by a chopper and mulcher and spraying Pusa Decomposer followed by a rotator and light irrigation to keep the field moist showed accelerated decomposition of paddy straw and allowed the farmer to sow wheat on time . It accelerates the decomposition process of paddy straw and prepares the field for sowing wheat in 25 days.
By 2021, ICAR-IARI in collaboration with a company is preparing to bring about >6000 acres under the Pusa Decomposer spray in Punjab alone where 25,000 farmers have been selected to participate. The technology has been licensed to 10 companies, each keen to help the farmer reduce straw burning by mass producing the Pusa Decomposer product and making it readily available. Therefore, the Pusa Decomposer is a long-term sustainable solution for handling paddy straw in connection with machinery.
Problems encountered The very first problem is due to different farm sizes mainly small < 5 hectares to large > 100 hectares, the exact following of SOP for Pusa decomposer is not maintained by all the farmers.
