Dr Abantika Bhattacharya (1978-2021)

Dr Abantika Bhattacharya, a great scholar with a heart of gold, was born on 28th October 1978. She was alumnus of Medical College Kolkata (MBBS 1999-2004), further completed her MD (Community Medicine) from Burdwan Medical college & Hospital (2009-2012). She had a brilliant academic record being the university topper for the year 2012 from West Bengal University of Health Sciences. Since 2012 she served as a medical teacher in West Bengal Medical Education Services.

Dr Abantika Bhattacharya was a member of the Editorial team of this journal, Journal of Comprehensive Health, between 2019-2021. Her passion for writing and publishing is well documented in numerous national and international indexed scientific journals in such a short span of her career. She was an active member of IMA, IAPSM,IPHA, APCRI, regularly attending and presenting papers in State and National Conferences. She also presented paper in the last offline IAPSMCON 2020 at Mahabalipuram. She was Ex Executive Committee member of State IPHA and IAPSM. She joined Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine as a life member in her early academic career and as an energetic young member always contributed to the growth of the association.

Apart from multidimensional academic achievements, her effervescent personality was a source of inspiration to her peers and juniors. Dr Abantika Bhattacharya was a great personality, ever helpful, cheerful person with wonderful sense of humor. She is fondly remembered as a beloved student to all her teachers.

A brilliant speaker, a loving teacher to all her students, she was as fresh as a mountain stream but sadly we could not hold on to her and had to bid adieu so early at a mere age of 42 on 29.08. 2021. With her, we lost a rising star of public health. Our fraternity of Community Medicine West Bengal will always remember Dr Abantika Bhattacharya.

We pay our sincere tribute to her; she will always remain in our heart. May her soul rest in peace.
