Evaluation of time to peak of vertical ground reaction force curve in blind individuals compared to healthy control ones

Background and Aim: Time to peak of vertical ground reaction force curve are one of the most importantplantar pressure variablesparameters during walking. The aim of this study was to investigate the Evaluation of time to peak of vertical ground reaction force curve in blind individuals compared to healthy control ones.
Materials and methods:14 blind and 16 healthy males were volunteered to participate in this study. A foot scan system was used for measuring of plantar pressure variables during stance phase of walking. Plantar pressure variables were recorded at sampling frequency of 300 Hz. Independent sample t-test was used for statistical analysis. Alpha level was set at p<0.05.
Results:The results demonstrated that the time to peak of vertical ground reaction force curve at the heel contact (p= 0.001), mid stance (P = 0.004) and toe off (p = 0.002) sub-phases in the blind group were higher than that healthy control groups by 42.7, 36.4, and 23.8 milliseconds, respectively
Conclusion:Since time to peak of vertical ground reaction force curve in blind group is high than that of the healthy control group, therefore, similar peak plantar pressure and forces in the foot may be a risk factor for injuries in blind subjects.
