Kyung–SeoParklThe First Human Rights Ambassador of the Republic of Korea / Korea Center for United Nations Human Rights Policy

Dr. Kyung-Seo Park is the President of the Korea Center for UN Human Rights Policy. He had his B.A. for sociology at the Seoul National University, and received his M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Göttinggen, Germany. He was appointed the first Ambassador for Human Rights of the Republic of Korea in February 2001 and served until 2007 for 7 years. He also served in several important government positions: he was a Senior Commissioner of National Human Rights Commission, Chairperson of the Policy making Commission of the Ministry of Unification, and Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of the Korean National Policy Agency. His published works include: “Promoting Peace and Human Rights on the Korean Peninsula,” Seoul: Ewha Womans University Press, 2007, “Peace and Human Rights in the time of globalization”(2009), “Korean Identity as global citizen standard”(2009).

Rainer Wagner l National Chairman of the Union of the Association of Victims of Communist Tyranny (UOKG)

Mr. Rainer Wagner has been the chairman of the victims’ group UOKG (Union der Opferverbaende Kommunistischer Gewaltherrschaft (Union of the Association of Victims of Communist Tyranny)” since 2007. Born in the GDR, he spent one and half years in prison because of a “violent attempt to cross the border”. From 1974 onward, after finishing his studies in religious education, he worked on different posts within the Protestant church in East Germany, authored and co-authored theological books and taught at seminars of the Lutheran Church in Russia and other countries. From 2000, he was president of the Protestant churches committee on previous political prisoners, and from 2004 he was a board member at UOKG. He is currently a board member at Interasso, a member of the advisory council to the Foundation Berlin Wall and president of the advisory council of the Foundation Hohenschoenhausen Memorial. He is recipient of the Merit Cross Ribbon by the German state.

Keum–Soon LeelDirector, Center for North Korean Human Rights Studies, KINU Dr. Keum-Soon Lee is a director, Center for North Korean Human Rights Studies of the Korea Institute for National Unification (KINU). She has worked on human rights violations in North Korea, inter-Korean humanitarian affairs and protection and social adaption assistance of North Korean escapees. Currently, she is a member of Presidential Committee on Social Cohesion. Previously, she served as the chairperson of National Committee for the Compensation of the Victims of North Korean. Dr. Lee was educated at Seoul National University, Marquette University, and Purdue University, where she received her Ph.D. in Political Science in 1993. Her recent publications include The Correlations between Corruption and Human Rights in North Korea (2012), Research on the Operations of UN Commission of Inquiry (2013), 2013 White Paper on Human Rights in North Korea (2013).

Eduard LintnerlFormer Parliamentary Secretary of State at the German Federal Ministry of Interior

Mr. Eduard Lintner was born on November 4th, 1944 in Marktlangendorf, Germany. He studied law at the University of Würzburg and passed the second state examination in 1973.

From May 1974 to October 1976, he worked as an advisor at the state administration office of the Free State of Bavaria, and also served in the administrative district office in the city of Kitzingen. Since April 1981, he got admittance as attorney in the city of Bad Neustadt a.

d. S. He became a member of the political party, Christian Social Union (CSU) in 1962 and worked as a regional chairman of the “Junge Union Würzburg-Land” (“ Union” of Germany) between 1969 and 1971. Between 1972 and 1979, he became a member of the CSU state executive board. Since 1978, he is a member of the CSU regional executive board of Bad Kissingen and vice chairman of the Christian Social Union (CSU) district association of Unterfranken.

He became a member of the Bundestag, the German parliament in 1976 and has been the chairman of the working group “German politics and ‘Berlin question’” of the CDU/CSU party between 1982 and 1990. Following this, he worked as Parliamentary Secretary of State at the German Federal Ministry of the Interior from January 24th, 1991 to October 26th, 1998.

Moreover, he worked as a vice chairman of the Law and Human Rights Committee and a member of the Monitoring-Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. He has worked as a member of the German Parliament until his retirement in 2009.

Heung-Soon ParklPresident, Korean Academic Council on the UN System / Sun Moon University

Dr. Heung-Soon Park is a Professor at the International & United Nations Studies of the SunMoon University. He had his Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina, U.S. He is currently a member of the Policy Advisory Council at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the President of the Korean Academic Council on the United Nations System(KACUNS). His academic publications include “The Discourse in the UN on the Right to Development: Implications upon North Korea’s Human Rights”(2012), “The Korean Peninsular and the Role of the United Nations”(2012), “The RtoP and Lybia: The Role of the UN Secretary-General”(2012).

Changrok SohlKorea University / President, Human Asia

Dr. Changrok Soh is a Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies in Korea University, and the President of Human Asia. He received his Master’s Degree and Ph.D. at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University. He is currently serving as the Director of the Citizens’ Alliance for North Korean Human Rights, International Human Rights Committee Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, and the International Affairs Committee Commissioner at the Korean Social Science Research Council.

Ki–Hong HanlPresident, Network for North Korean Democracy and Human Rights Mr. Ki-Hong Han is the President of the Network for North Korean Democracy and Human Rights. He had his Bachelor’s Degree for Psychology at Yonsei University. He has served as the Board Director of the North Korea Database Center, Chief Director for North Korea International Film Festival, and the Chairperson of the National Assembly’s DPRK Policy Advisory Committee.
