become part of the UniMAP system and community.

Welcome to all of you; welcome to Malaysia; welcome to Perlis; and welcome to Universiti Malaysia Perlis.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

UniMAP has some of the finest and the most capable and highly professional academic instructors, administrative and support staffs amongst universities in Malaysia. We have here at our campuses;

research centres, laboratories and many other advanced equipment and facilities that can be found at all other acclaimed institutions of higher education. The engineering and business curricula are the most up-to-date and relevant when it comes to meeting the requirements of modern industry and global commerce.

Everything that a learner needs in order to enjoy a pleasant, challenging, and enjoyable academic experience has been made available here at UniMAP. Everything from recreation to accommodation, to transportation, to providing for your daily needs, to safety and security – all of these functions and considerations have been meticulously planned and put in place with the highest diligence for your benefit.

Here at UniMAP, you will quickly gain the knowledge, the skills, and the mental maturity that will enable you to meet and then maintain the highest performance standards in the working world and in the bigger national, regional, and global societies, associations, and partnerships that you are now or will soon be involved in.

I believe that, within a very short time frame, you will be able to readily appreciate that you have made a good choice, and a wise decision to launch your higher-level educational and professional lives here at UniMAP.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Every year, the number of applications from international students increases. UniMAP has todate a total of 300 international students on campus. The September admission of international students to undergraduate programmes is 100% more in comparison to the last year.

Our university has enrolled many foreign students from different parts of the world. It is really making me proud to see the increase in number of students from more and more countries, in every new session. Presently, we have students from China, Indonesia, Yemen, Sudan, Uzbekistan, Palestine, Syria, Thailand, Somalia, Iraq, Bangladesh and many other countries.

Today marks the start of your journey towards achieving the highest excellence in your life. The highest reward for your toil as a student , will determine what kind of person, and professional you will choose to be. In turn, you should be prepared to change your life style and mind set to adapt to university life. You should become more independent, more proactive, more tolerant, more open minded and more mindful of things going on around you and the changes that take place every day.

(4)

I encourage you to start thinking about all these things now, so that you will be prepared from the beginning. Prepare yourself for this new chapter in your life. Perhaps you can begin by understanding what your courses will involve, and what will be expected of you during the next four years.

You have already overcome the first hurdle - getting into UniMAP.

Now that you are here, the next hurdle before you, is to study hard and do well in all your courses and extracurricular activities; and complete the IEC course and the undergraduate degree programme in 4 years. At UniMAP, we want you to do more; your achievements must be good for yourself, your parents, your future, the country, and even the world.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I sincerely hope and expect you all to have a wonderful and fulfilling academic experience here at UniMAP. Please also establish worthwhile and mutually advantageous friendships and acquaintances with one another and with your Malaysian hosts. You are our guests here and we will certainly make you feel welcome and appreciated. Please enjoy our warm hospitality and our vibrant culture.

Thank you very much.
