I. All thesis must be written according to GAYA UKM thesis style of writing [Rules 29: UKM Regulation (Graduate Studies) 2015].

III. Several mistakes on GAYA UKM were detected in the thesis as listed below. Student is required to amend the mistakes and resubmit the thesis to Deputy Dean (Postgraduate) for approval.
COMMON ISSUES MISTAKES DETECTED IN THE THESIS
1. Title Page
Should have a TITLE PAGE in English and followed by a translation in Bahasa Malaysia.
Purpose of submission of thesis (for English title page) should be:

3. Page Number

4. Abstract
A thesis written in English should have its translation abstract in Bahasa Malaysia (without title), followed by abstract in English (without title) (Refer page 14, GAYA UKM)

The sub-headings in Table of Content is until two decimal points only, for example: 2.1.1, 3.1.1, 4.3.2.
Use the following format for the table of content:
Take note of the capital and small letters as well as line spacing between headings and subheadings as well between different subheadings

6. List of Tables and Illustrations
The list of tables/illustrations should be numbered according to the chapters, for example, Table 2.1, Table 3.1, Table 4.4, Figure 2.1, Figure 4.5
The titles must be worded exactly as they appear in the text of the thesis. DO NOT include figure/table legend in the list.

8. Table
The title of a table must be positioned above the table.
Tables have no vertical lines. Horizontal lines are only used at the top and bottom and to separate major sections of the table.
If a table is presented in landscape view, the head of the table must be along the bound edge of the thesis.
Font size for all table title and contents is 10 points.
Table continue on several pages must use “to be continued…” and “…continuation”

9. Illustration

10. Reference for Table and Illustration
References for tables and illustrations are written at the bottom of tables/illustrations after text or footnote describing the tables/illustrations. It is

11. Writing Numbers
Numbers up to four digits, that is 9999, are written without a comma or a space between them.
Number larger than four digits are written with a space before each set of three digits, for eg. 10 000, 100 000.
Numbers smaller than 12 should be spelt out except they are with unit or when they appear in a list, for example 5, 90, 102 and 1032.
Avoid beginning a sentence with a number or a symbol.

12. Writing Units
There should be a space between number and unit except for %. For C use the degree from the symbol not superscript of O, o or 0 (zero).
Molarity is represented by the symbols M.
Use proper symbol for microliter () and times ().

13. In Text Citations
Use author-date system.
Where the work of two or three co-authors is referred to, then all names must be mentioned each time it is referred to.
Where reference is made to a work authored by more than three people, the name of the first

14. In Text Citations: Multiple References Two or more references made in the same place should be separated by semicolons and the sequence should be in alphabetical order.
