OBJECTIVES
Surface Analysis is the study of physical and chemical phenomena that occur at the interface of two materials especially between solid and gas, and solid and liquid. One of the most important quantities for studying and characterising novel porous solid materials is the surface area. BET analysis provides precise surface specific surface area evaluation of materials by nitrogen multilayer adsorption measured as a function of relative pressure using a fully automated analyzer. The technique encompasses external surface area and open pores evaluation to determine the total specific surface area in m2/g, along with pore volume in cm3/g and area distributions. The yielded information are important for studying the effect of porosity and particle size in many applications for adsorbents, catalysts, pharmaceu- ticals, fuel cell technologies, polymers, ceramics, cosmetics and others.
The two-day workshop on surface analysis will focus on the BET analysis to characterize the sur- face of solid material. In this workshop the funda- mentals of the theory, principal of the analyzer, method of analysis and data interpretation will be provided together with the hands-on training.
