GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Mt. 11:11-15) The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew
Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and men of violence take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John; and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
REFLECTION:
Who is the greatest in the kingdom of God? Jesus praised John the Baptist as the greatest person born. Who can top that as a compliment? But in the same breath Jesus says that the least in the kingdom of God is even greater than John!
That sounds like a contradiction, right? Unless you understand that what Jesus was about to accomplish for our sake would supersede all that the prophets had done and foreseen.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, fill me with joy and confidence and make me a bold witness of your saving truth that others may know the joy and freedom of the Gospel of your kingdom of peace and righteousness. Amen.
FROM THE OVCAR – OFFICE OF THE INTEGRATED SCHOOL PRINCIPAL:
1. As we celebrate the Advent season, we are invited to reflect on the events that have taken place and affected us and our community. Likewise, we are called to interpret, judge, and evaluate everything in the light of the Gospel. Fortunately, the Gospel readings tell us to take courage and continue to hope for we have a living God who actively supports us. All we have to do is to live a life that is pleasing to God. Challenging as it is, the Gospel inspires us to cast away sorrow and with Jesus Christ, courageously continue partaking in the salvific mission of the Church.
With so much hope and love, we wish everyone a meaningful Advent season, a blessed Christmas and a wonderful New Year! May God bless each one of us and respective families abundantly!
