GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Mk. 7:31-37) The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark

Jesus left the district of Tyre and went by way of Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, into the district of the Decapolis.

And people brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment and begged him to lay his hand on him.

He took him off by himself away from the crowd. He put his finger into the man's ears and, spitting, touched his tongue;

then he looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him, "Ephphatha!" (that is, "Be opened!") And immediately the man's ears were opened, his speech impediment was removed, and he spoke plainly.

He ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more he ordered them not to, the more they proclaimed it. They were exceedingly astonished and they said, "He has done all things well. He makes the deaf hear and the mute speak."

Reflection:

The people's response to this miracle testifies to Jesus' great care for others: He has done all things well. No problem or burden was too much for Jesus' careful consideration. The Lord treats each of us with kindness and compassion and he calls us to treat one another in like manner. The Holy Spirit who dwells within us enables us to love as Jesus loves. Do you show kindness and compassion to your neighbors and do you treat them with considerateness as Jesus did?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, make me attentive to the needs of others that I may show them kindness and care. Amen.

Computer Trivia#2 Did you know that…

You’ve heard of computer bugs, right? Well, the term “bug” comes from a story that began at Harvard, when employees could not understand why the Analytical Engine was not working. They looked at the program and saw nothing, no problems. They eventually scanned the entire machine and saw a “bug”: a moth, in between parts of the machine. They took out the bug and the machine started working again. It’s a good thing that you don’t encounter such a problem when you’re working on your laptop!

FROM THE OVCAD – INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:

Cont…Dental Hygiene Tips

4. Limit Sodas, Coffee and Alcohol

Although these beverages contain a high level of phosphorous, which is a necessary mineral for a healthy mouth, too much phosphorous can deplete the body’s level of calcium. This causes dental hygiene problems such as tooth decay and gum disease. Beverages containing additives such as corn syrup and food dye can make pearly white teeth appear dull and discolored. Therefore, it is best to choose beverages like milk, which helps strengthen teeth and build stronger enamel, giving you a healthy, beautiful smile and water which hydrates your body longer than sugary drinks.

5. Consume Calcium and other Vitamins that are good for the body

You need plenty of calcium for your teeth. It is essential for the teeth as well as your bones. It is better to drink milk, fortified orange juice and to eat yogurt, broccoli, cheese, and other dairy products. You can also take a calcium supplement, taking different doses according to your age and necessity as per prescription. Calcium and Vitamin D are necessary for maintaining the health of gums and teeth. Vitamin B complex is also essential for the protection of gums and teeth from cracking and bleeding. Copper, zinc, iodine, iron and potassium are also required for maintaining healthy dental hygiene.

Culture and Arts Office On Kabesang Tales

Tickets are now available at the Culture and Arts Office for Grades 9,10 and 11 classes who will watch the musical play on February 14, 2016.

Etiquette on Viewing Kabesang Tales

This is a gentle reminder for everyone who will be watching a live musical theater play that that depends on both artists and audience. The quality of a single performance depends partly on the audience, on how the people respond, and how they behave. Everyone is reminded to observe the following theater etiquette.

1. Be on time. La Sallians arrive on time. NO ONE will be admitted after the curtain has gone up. Once settled and lights dim, it signals that the performance is about to begin. The actors and the audience put aside concerns and conversations.

2. Focus. Performers require the full attention of the audience. Avoid talking and sharing your thoughts to your seatmate. It is disruptive and distracting to both performers and audience.

3. No food. There is no food allowed in the auditorium: soda, candy, and other snacks are also distracting. Please take your meals outside the venue.

4. Stay. Avoid standing and walking through the aisles during the performance. It is disruptive. Please use the restroom and take care of all other concerns outside before the show or at intermission.

5. Off mode. Cell phones, watch alarms and other electronic devices should be turned of before the performance begins.
