THE HOLY GOSPEL (Mk 1:21-28) The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark

Shortly afterward they came to Capernaum, and on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and began to teach. The people were spellbound by his teaching because he taught with authority and not like the scribes.

There appeared in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit that shrieked: “What do you want us, Jesus of Nazareth?

Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him sharply: “Be quiet! Come out of the man!” At that the unclean spirit convulsed the man violently and with a loud shriek came out of him. All who looked on were amazed. They began to ask one another: “What does this mean? A completely new teaching in a spirit of authority!

He gives orders to unclean spirits and they obey!” From that point on his reputation spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee.

Reflection:

The people were spellbound by His teaching because He taught with authority. The authority of Jesus comes first and foremost from God who once uttered, You are my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased, and secondly from his actions. Jesus’ words are reflected in His actions. That is why He is called the greatest teacher, by showing the way, giving the best example. And we? How do we teach? How do we learn? How do we live? Do we live as if Jesus is present or we are living in darkness? Let us sit at the feet of the Master, learn from Him and let our lives be the testament that Jesus is truly alive! As one Lasallian Family may we follow the teachings of Jesus and so we pray…

Prayer:

Jesus, be our teacher, model and friend in our daily living. Amen.

St. John Baptist de La Salle…….Pray for us!

Live Jesus in our hearts………… Forever!

FROM THE OVCAD – INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:

Continuation… Post – Holiday Detoxing The lemon method

Adding lemon juice to a large bottle of water and drinking it throughout the day helps regulate the digestive system and stimulate the elimination of toxins. Of course, lemon juice can also be added to food as a light salad dressing, for example.

Seasonal fruit

Rich in vitamins and water, pineapple, grapefruit, apple, orange and lemon are ideal detox aids when eaten raw before and (especially) after a meal. Of course, fruit is rich in sugar, so moderation is advised.

Green vegetables instead of starch

Instead of mashed potatoes or white pasta, fill your plate with green vegetables in the weeks following the holidays. A diet rich in herbs, lettuces, kale and cabbage -- as well as onions and garlic -- can help the body eliminate toxins while

replenishing vitamins and minerals. While any detox diet should also include a few whole grains in moderation, avoid white starches as well as all forms of processed sugar, alcohol, coffee and dairy products.
