GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Mk 2:1-12) The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark,

When Jesus returned to Capernaum after some days, it became known that he was at home. Many gathered together so that there was longer room for them, not even around the door, and he preached the word to them. They came bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. Unable to get near Jesus because of the crowd, they opened up the roof above him.

After they had broken through, they let down the mat on which the paralytic was lying. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Child, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there asking themselves, “Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming. Who but God alone can forgive sins? Jesus immediately knew in his mind what they were thinking to themselves, so he said, “Why are you thinking such things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,‘ or to say, ‘Rise, pick up your mat and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on earth’’-he said to the paralytic, “I say to you, rise, pick up your mat and go home.” He rose, picked up his mat at once, and went away in the sight of everyone. They were all astounded and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this.”

Reflections:

The scribes accused Jesus of blasphemy because for them only God has the power to forgive. But the story goes on and tells us that Jesus was able to heal the paralytic. Is it not a miracle? Curing a paralytic by mere words is a supernatural act that is reserved for God. Therefore, the miracle done was a proof of Jesus’ divinity and making Him capable of forgiving…do you doubt God’s forgiving power? Do you still need a miracle to realize that He has the power to change your life and make it meaningful? He alone can do that.

Prayer:

Let us pray….

In all transgressions, we humbly ask for forgiveness. Help us to recognize your divinity and power over us. Amen.

St. John Baptist de La Salle…….Pray for us!

Live Jesus in our hearts………… Forever!

cont...Ways to prevent cancer 3. Don’t Smoke

You’ve heard it before: If you smoke, quitting is absolutely the best thing you can do for your health. Yes, it’s hard, but it’s also far from impossible.

Tips

Keep trying! It often takes six or seven tries before you quit for good.

Talk to a health-care provider for help.

Join a quit-smoking program. Your workplace or health plan may offer one.

For Parents and Grandparents

Try to quit as soon as possible. If you smoke, your children will be more likely to smoke.

(4)

Don’t smoke in the house or car. If kids breathe in your smoke, they may have a higher risk of breathing problems and lung cancer.

When appropriate, talk to your kids about the dangers of smoking and chewing tobacco. A health-care professional or school counselor can help.
