THE HOLY GOSPEL (Lk 16:1-8)

The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke

Jesus said to his disciples, “A rich man had a steward who was reported to him for squandering his property. He summoned him and said, ‘What is this I hear about you? Prepare a full account of your stewardship, because you can no longer be my steward.’ The steward said to himself, ‘What shall I do, now that my master is taking the position of steward away from me? I am not string enough to dig and I am ashamed to beg. I know what I shall do so that, when I am removed from the stewardship, they may welcome me into their homes.’ He called in his master’s debtors one by one. To the first he said, ‘How much do you owe my master? He replied, ‘One hundred measures of olive oil.’ He said to him, ‘Here is your promissory note. Sit down and quickly write one for fifty.’ Then to another he said, ‘And you, how much do you owe? He replied, ‘One hundred kors of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Here is your promissory note; write one for eighty.’ And the master commended that dishonest steward for acting prudently.

“For the children of this world are more prudent in dealing with their own generation than are the children of light.”

Reflections:

Jesus in today’s gospel invites us to be more prudent in our dealings with our fellowman. Being prudent does not mean we take advantage of others weaknesses. Rather, to be prudent is to discern the will of God in our daily life. Following the will of God is our main business here on earth. We don’t need to compromise to other fellowman the will of God in us. We need to be honest and transparent in our public and private dealings. Dichotomy of manners has no place in the kingdom of God.

Prayer: Let us pray….

Lord, help us to be honest and prudent in our dealings with our neighbors. Amen St. John Baptist De La Salle…Pray for us!

Live Jesus in our hearts…Forever!

From the Christian Living Department

What are the qualities of good prayer? Attention (Mt.6: 7,8), Faith (Heb.11: 6), Humility (Jam.4: 6, Mt.6: 1-6, Lk.18: 9-14), Right Priority (Lk.22: 42), Devotion (Mt.15:8), Fervor (Lk.22: 43,44), Perseverance (Lk.11: 5-10/18:1-8, Mt.24: 13), and Frequency. We should pray at least 15 minutes everyday. In this life we prepare to be with God for eternity. Since God is the most important Person in our life we should speak to Him everyday. We spend far more time each day simply eating or in recreation and entertainment. Our soul is more important than our body. God is certainly more important than anyone or anything else in our life, so He deserves a priority of time. How often we should pray? Scripture says: "Pray always!" (Lk.18: 1, 1 Thess.5: 17, Eph.6: 18, Acts 6:4).
