Abstract
In
line with
the goalof
Brightwoods Schoolto
movefrom
goodto
great, tremendouseffort
has been exerted andmuch
changes havebeen made to establish a learning
atmospherefor
its learners that istruly fun
andlasting.
The English teachers who arethe
designersof the English curriculum
aswell
have been constructingnew ideas, revising the English syllabi,
makingsome recommendations
and
establishing programs- all in
thename
of
change and improvementin
orderto further
hone the communicative and comprehensionskills of the
students and to aid in theirholistic
development. The main aim of the researcher isto
determine thelevel of
the receptiveskills in
readingof
the Intermediate pupilsof
Brightwoodsschool which will
serve as a baseline studyor foundation for
creatingthe
proposed readingclinic. This is a
descriptive analysisof the
pupil-respondents' levelof
foceptiveskills in
reading andtheir level of inclination towards reading. The San Diego Quick
AssessmentList, Heathinglon Intermediate scale, an observation checklist for
teachers anda
seriesof
reading testswere
usedin this
study.The researcher also adopted the descriptive method as
well
as the correlation methodof
researchto
determine the exlentto
whichthe variables are relateci.
Education and instruction exist and are practiced up to this day for the
attainment of one noble goal- to facilitate and aid in the process called learning-
the end all and be
all
of education and teaching. The practice of teaching or education requires individuals to confront a host of challenges. The practitionersin this field, who are the teachers must minister to the needs of a number of young
people and at the same time, they should also aim to draw out the potentials
