Abstract
Birth of a

parents but unanticipated occurrence, such as the newborn b"itrg admitted in the NICU can alter the parents' emotions. Nursing support can help the parentsto
overcome this situation. Thus, the aim of this study is to describe the perceptionof
parents relatedto
the quahtyof
parentalsupport
by
nurses whose children are admiuedin
the NICU. Fotsy eight parents (30 mothers and 18 fathers)with
infants admitted at the MCUin
various hospitalsin
Pampanga took partin
this descriptive study.Th"y
answeredthe
Nurse Parent SupportTool that
was translated into Filipino.It
has 21 items and 4 subscales (Information Giving and Communication Support; Emotional Support; Appraisal Support and Instnrmental Support). Results showed that the total mean of the NPST was 3.17 (SD=0.47) There were no a signifi.cant difference benveenthe
responsesof the
parentswith their
gender; age; civil$an$; and educational attainment of the parents and the 4 subscales.
The findings indicate that parents received a above moderate level of support from nurses. The result of the study points out that parents perceive instrumental support highest and emotional support as lourest Parents, do not differ in their perception with the support even if their demographic data vary.
