COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course aims to provide students with a basic understanding of the nature, scope, and skills used in counseling and other psychological interventions. This course also discusses the roles, functions, and ethical considerations involved in implementing psychological intervention. Emphasis is on various cognitive, affective, and behavioral approaches in counseling.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of the course, students are expected to:
1. Apply the basic skills in counseling through practice and simulation.
2. Model counselor characteristics essential to becoming an effective counselor.
3. Analyze ethical and multicultural issues in counseling based on applicable ethical standards and multicultural frameworks in practice.
4. Evaluate techniques and approaches in counseling based on theoretical orientation, practical application and effectiveness.
5. Demonstrate ability to integrate theoretical concepts into one’s personal foundational knowledge, skills and attitudes.
