Math Coaches Training
Objective

provided; History of service provision)
This activity trains teachers who coach high school students participating in mathematics competitions such as the Philippine Mathematical
Olympiad (PMO). The Institute has been actively involved in training students for the International Math Olympiad (IMO). It was observed that PMO winners usually come from private schools, and these students have been trained by professionals. The Institute aims to make quality training accessible to coaches especially from public schools in the provinces.

The degree-granting Institute of Mathematics currently has 81 faculty members, 36 of which are Ph.D. degree holders, and 9 administrative staff members.
For trainings, a faculty member is assigned as workshop director and one administrator at least one administrative staff is assigned to help in the facilitation of the activity. Five faculty members who are involved in the IMO training or had been involved in math competitions are requested to act as trainers.

Other Remarks The IMO training, supported by DOST, is held annually at the University of the Philippines. The Institute considers participation of its faculty members as trainers as part of our Extension/Public Service. It is also involved in the staging of the annual PMO, and that is also part of our public service.
