GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Mt. 7:21-29) The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew

Jesus said to his disciples, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?’ Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.’

“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined.”

When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

Reflection:

God’s will should be transformed not alone in words, but more so, in action. True prophets are not those who emanate what they preach into deeds. Thus we are invited by Christ to be witnesses of His will for us to build a firm foundation of our faith. May we build a community of transparent and trusting persons, transforming our words into good works.

Let us pray:

Lord, in times of trials and disturbances, may we stand strong in faith; built upon your good deeds.

From the GS- Christian Living with Character Education Department

The gift of understanding gives to the mind of those who have it a charisma for apprehending Christ’s public revelation easily and profoundly.

More specifically, the gift of understanding helps those who have it penetrate to the heart of revealed truth even when they do not fully understand its entire meaning. It gives great confidence in the revealed word of God and leads those who have it to reach true conclusions from revealed principles. http://www.saintjohnchurchmiddletown.com/pages/7gifts.aspx
