PUBLICATION NOTICES
Position: If position is determined by sextant angles or directions (either true or magnetic given), more than two must be used to ensure verification. Latitude and longitude should only be used to determine the position of details if they have been determined by astronomical observations or GPS, and a full description of the method used, the equipment and the date should be given. If it is desired that the changes appear on the maximum scale chart drawing (rather than on the chart itself), these should be red as above, but the relevant details from the chart should be drawn in black ink so that the corrections can be accommodated correctly.
Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs): A screenshot of the largest usage band ENC with changes and additions shown on it in red. Whether the sonar is set to record depths below the surface or below the keel; in the latter case, the vessel's draft must be indicated. The time, date and time zone should be given to allow corrections for tidal height where necessary, or a statement of what corrections for tides have already been made.
Where larger amounts of bathymetric data have been collected, only those areas where there is a significant difference to the current chart or ENC should be specifically mentioned on H102. For sounders using electronic range gating, ensure that the correct range scale and appropriate gate width are used. Older electromechanical sounders often record signals from echoes that are received back after one or more rotations of the pen have been completed.
As a check that apparent shoal soundings are not due to echoes received outside the nominal range of the set, soundings should be continued until reasonable agreement with charted soundings is obtained. However, soundings received after one or more rotations of the pen may still be useful and should be submitted if they show significant differences from charted depths. Shortcomings should be emphasized and any firm expectation of being able to verify the information on a subsequent trip should be mentioned.
Reports using this form and related data should be sent either by mail to NAMRIA- Hydrographic Branch, 421 Barraca St., San Nicolas, Manila or via email to [email protected] and maritime.concerns@gmail .com. The sections should be used as an adjunct mnemonic, being used or followed closely, when necessary. Deficiencies should be highlighted and any strong expectations to be able to control the information.
