Index of Affected Charts – Contains the list of all charts affected by Notices to Mariners and the Notice Numbers that affected them. Notices to Mariners - Contains corrections to charts in consecutive numbers indicating the month and year of issue. Light List Corrections – Contains the corrections to the latest edition of the Philippine Light List.

This section is intended to be cut and pasted onto the section of the light strip that is being corrected. The visibility assigned to the lights never exceeds the calculated distance at which they can be seen from a height of 4.57 meters above the water level on the crest. Coast Pilot Corrections – Contains the corrections to the latest edition of the Philippine Coast Pilot book.

Navigational Warnings – Contains the reprints of all previously issued navigational warnings still in effect as of the publication date of this edition of the Philippine Notices to Mariners. Publication Notices – Contains the latest updates on the nautical charts, electronic navigational charts and other nautical publications from NAMRIA. Such information is published for the sake of the safety of navigation on Philippine waters and does not imply recognition of the legal validity of the information issued by the above sources.

Ship captains are warned to exercise great caution when navigating Philippine waters due to poor visibility and intermittent failure of some navigation lights.

Position: When a position is determined by sextant angles or bearings (true or magnetic to be specified) more than two must be used to provide a check. Latitude and longitude should be used specifically to position details when they are fixed by astronomical observations or GPS, and a full description of the method, equipment and data used should be given. When requested, a new copy will be sent in place of a chart that has been used to convey information, or where extensive observations have involved breaking the observer's chart.

If it is preferred to show the modifications on a trace of the largest scale map (rather than the chart itself), this should be in red as above, but sufficient detail from the chart should be traced in black ink to indicate the changes fit correctly. Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs): A screenshot of the largest scale usage band ENC with the changes and additions shown on it in red. Soundings: When obtaining polls, it is important to ensure that full details of the method of collection are included in this report.

Whether the sounder is set to detect depths below the surface or below the keel; in the latter case, the draft of the vessel must be indicated. The time, date and time zone should be given so that corrections for tidal height can be made if necessary, or a statement of what tidal corrections have already been made. Where large amounts of bathymetric data have been collected, only those areas where there is a significant difference compared to the current chart or ENC should be specifically noted on H102.

For Echo Sounders using electronic 'range gate', care must be taken to use the correct range scale and appropriate gate width. Older electro-mechanical echo sounders often record signals from echoes received back after one or more rotations of the stylus have been completed. As a check that apparent ground soundings are not due to echoes received outside the set's nominal range, soundings should be continued until reasonable agreement with chart soundings is achieved.

However, soundings received after one or more rotations of the stylus may still be useful and should be submitted if they show significant differences from the mapped depths. Deficiencies should be highlighted and any firm expectation to check the information on a consecutive trip should be mentioned. Reports using this form and relevant data should be sent either by post to NAMRIA- Hydrography Branch, 421 Barraca St., San Nicolas, Manila or by email to [email protected] and maritime.concerns@ gmail.com.

The sections should be used as a reminder and used or followed closely where necessary. Deficiencies should be highlighted and any firm expectation that the information can be verified should be emphasized.
