CHINESE HIGH SCHOOL ONLINE ENGLISH LEARNING STUDENTS’

PERCEPTIONS AND TEACHERS’CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

During the epidemic period, the online teaching mode was widely used by various schools at all levels in China, completely replacing the traditional classroom teaching mode. This study aims to investigate the Chinese high school students’

perceptions of online English learning and the challenges and opportunities of Chinese high school teachers’ online English teaching. It provides a reference for other schools to choose and use alternative online teaching approaches in routine teaching.

This study is a mixed method investigation. The quantitative research instrument is questionnaire. The qualitative research instrument is semi-structured interview. The population of this study are 4,000 high school students and 10 high school English teachers in Anshun No. 1 High School, Guizhou Province, China. The researcher calculated the sample group through Yamane’s formula, and used simple random sampling method to get 404 students as samples to answer the questionnaire.

The 10 high school English teachers also participate voluntarily in the semi-structured interviews.

在疫情流行期间,网络教学模式被中国各级各类学校广泛采用,完全取代了 传统的课堂教学模式。本研究旨在调查中国高中生对在线英语学习的看法以及中 国高中教师在线英语教学面临的挑战和机遇。为其他学校在日常教学中选择和使 用替代性网络教学方法提供参考。

本研究是一项混合方法调查。定量研究工具为问卷调查。定性研究工具为半 结构式访谈。本研究的对象是中国贵州省安顺市第一中学的 4000名高中生和 10 名高中英语教师。研究者通过 Yamane公式计算样本组,并采用简单随机抽样的 方法,以 404名学生为样本回答问卷。10名高中英语教师也自愿参加了半结构式 访谈。
