4. Resume of Experience and Qualifications
Walid Abubaker Al-Kutti is an assistant professor at University of Dammam in Saudi Arabia where he has been involved in the teaching and research activities in the Department of Construction Engineering. He has also gained considerable theoretical and experimental knowledge about the behaviour of concrete and steel structures in the Gulf environment.
From 2005 to 2011, he was working as Lecturer in King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia in concrete durability in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Al-Kutti PhD research focussed on simulation of chloride transport in concrete with stress-induced damage and composite structures where experimental and numerical research was conducted. Moreover, he was involved in investigating the strengthening of existing structures using CFRP which is one of the latest techniques used in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region to improve the capacity of concrete structure, specially the precast slab panels.
From 1998-2003, he was working as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering at Aden University, in which he gained academic experience and worked as an instructor of the following undergraduate courses: Concrete Materials I, Structural Analysis II, Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures I and Design of Steel Structures I.
Beside his postgraduate studies, he worked as a Structural Engineer from 1998 to 2003 in a construction company in Yemen to design different commercial and industrial structures using the latest design software and according to international codes and specification.
5. Specialization
Construction materials engineering, specifically, the following fields: Mechanical damage of concrete structures subjected to static and dynamics loading, composite materials, durability of plain and blended cements in sulfate and/or chloride environments. Protection of reinforced concrete structures using mineral admixtures, such as silica fume, fly ash, natural pozzolans, etc. Assessment of concrete structures using non-destructive testing. Repairing and strengthening of concrete structures using FRP.
Numerical and experimental studies on chloride transport in concrete with stress- induced damage. Finite element simulation of the mechanical and the transport properties of reinforced concrete. Continuum damage modeling of materials such as reinforced concrete and composite materials.
