Customs Seizures
First: Seizures and Quantities:
The total number of seizures during the year 2012 exceeded 87 million units, if measured by number, showing a decrease by 41% compared to the year 2011; also exceeded 916 thousand kg, if measured by weight; and exceeded 3.3 million liter, if measured by liter. The most significant category of seized items was narcotics as per following detail: narcotics:
6.6 thousand kg; narcotic pills: 34 million pills; intoxicants: 158 thousand units; arms: more than 3,000 units; ammunitions:
38,7 thousand units. It is taken into account in this Report that all seized items of prohibited and restricted goods, whether being imported or exported, are recorded with exclusion of the counterfeit and fake goods. (Table 5-1).
Second: Number of Seizure Cases, Arrested Persons, and Quantity of Seized Items according to the Customs Types:
Total number of overall seizure cases that are not indicative of the quantity of seized items, exceeded 19,000 cases during the year 2012 with an increase by 28% compared to the year 2011. Total number of arrested persons reached to 15,524 with an increase by 26% compared to the year 2011. We will review number of seizure cases, arrested persons, and quantity of seized items according to the customs types, in the following:
1. Sea port Customs:
Total seizure cases at the seaport customs represent 8% of the total seizure cases. Jeddah Islamic Seaport Customs occupied the highest place at the level of seaport customs with 4.5% of the total seizure cases, followed by King Abdulaziz Seaport Customs with 1.7%
of total seizure cases. (Table 5-2).
2. Air port Customs:
Total seizure cases at the airport customs represent 24%
of the total seizure cases. King Khalid International Airport Customs occupied the highest place at the level of airport customs with 16.3% of the total seizure cases, followed by King Abdulaziz Airport Customs with 5.6% of total seizure cases. The Post Office Customs represents 6% of the total seizure cases. (Table 5-2)

3. Land port Customs:
Total seizure cases at the landport customs represent 62% of the total seizure cases. Al Batha Customs occupied the highest place at the level of landport customs having 23.3% of the total seizure cases at the customs ports. Al Hadith Customs occupies first place in seizure of narcotic pills reaching to 25,8 million pills, followed by Halet Ammar Customs with more than 4.2 million pills, then Al Durah Customs with more than 1.4 million pills. (Table 5-2).
Third: Customs Seizures of the Counterfeit and Fake Goods:
Total number of seized units of the counterfeit and fake goods during the year 2012 reached around 54,8 million counterfeit units.
Total number of seizure reports during the year 2012 reached to 6,4 thousand reports with an increase by 24.8% compared to the year 2011. Jeddah Islamic Seaport Customs occupies first place in seizure of counterfeit goods reaching to 3,7 thousand seizure cases, followed by King Abdulaziz Seaport Customs with 1.3 thousand seizure cases. The cases of violations of standards and specifications constituted 4.9 thousand cases (Seizure Report) out of total violation cases according to the types of violations. (Table 6-1, 6-2).
Fourth: Customs Seizures of the Goods Restricted from Exportation:
Total number of seized items of the goods restricted from exportation reached during the year 2012 to 3,8 thousand cases. Weight of such items exceeded 216 thousand kg compared to the seizure of the goods restricted from exportation during the year 2011 exceeded 4.2 thousand cases with weight exceeding 964 thousand kg. The seized items measureable by liters exceeded 3.3 million liters with a decrease by 53% compared to the year 2011. (Table 5-1).
Fifth: Financial Declaration:
Total value of amounts declared by the travelers of inbound flights exceeded SR 122 billion inclusive of SR 2 billion for precious metals. Total value of amounts declared by the travelers of outbound flights exceeded SR 34.9 billion inclusive of SR 23 billion for precious metals. The value of total declarations during the year 2012 reached SR 157.7 billion with an increase by 136% compared to the year 2011 Which amounted to 66.8 billion riyals. (Table 5-4).
