The half-annual general meeting of this society took place on Sunday, December 2, at the Communal
Hall, Doornfontein. The chairman, l\ir. A. Kirson, addressed the meeting, and expressed regret at the lack of enthusia ·rn displayed by the members of the committee during t.he period. He tated that all account~ and fees due by the society had been paid.

Isaac Hersch entertained an apprecia- tive gathering with his reading on Chanukah, selected from the humorous \VOrk of Sholem Aleichem the Yiddish Mark Twain. Little Mis May :Mari~sky, the gifted and promising pupil of Miss .Muriel Alexander, ga rn a remarkable display of her versatility in the rendering of three recitations. J\Irs. Dr. S. Zweiback, for many years president, and now honorary life president of the Association, was elected at the last elections a member of the Cape Provincial Council, after one of the keenest contests in Kimberley hi tory.
l'vir. Barney Benischowitz has been elected a member of the Kimberley City Council.

A special general meeting of the local Zionist Association was held on Sundav, the 4th instant, at the Synagogue for the purpose" of electing delegates to the forthcoming Zioni t Conference. The meeting was largely attended, and the president, Mr. D.
Chedeckel, in welcoming the members and friends, eAi>ressed his pleasure at the good attendance, and then proceeded to explain the object of the meeting.
Rev. L. \Volk, in a short address, referred to the signi£cance of the forthcoming Conference, more especially in view of the presence of Mr. Nahum
~ okolow, and said that no one who had the opportunity hould mis this unique occasion. Mr. Morris Kramer and J\fr. D. Chedeckel were appointed the Associa- tion's delegates, and two resolutions were passed, to be placed on the Conference agenda. The president announced the resignation of .i\Iiss S. Matthews and Mr. S. J. Kaplan were appointed delegates to the for.thcoming Zionist Conference. The Society has done a great deal for the Keren Hayesod Fund, for which Miss Sadie Arenson worked very ardently in her capacity as hon. secretary. It was unanimously d"cided that Rev. :\fatthews' name be inscribed in the Golden Book as a mark of recognition for the ardent work he has done in the Zionist cause.
After the meeting, Dr. Olsvanger delivered an inspir- ing address on the recent progress of Zionism. A vote of thanks to the chair and lecturer concluded a very interesting meeting.
Lady brand.
On December 5, Dr. Olsvanger vi ited Ladybrand, being met by Messrs. H. Jacobson, president of the Zionist Society, I. Israel and l\if. A. Friedgut. That evening practically the whole of the Jewish community assembled at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. M.
Sandler, where Dr. Olsvanger delivered a stirring address. A general meeting was afterwards held, and the Zionist Society reorganised, Mr. H. Jacobson being elected chairman, frs. A. Friedgut secretary, with J\1esdames S. Green and .M. Pincus, l\fiss Steckoll. and Messrs. I. Isruel, L Sandler and l\f.
Steckoll on the committee. l\Irs. Friedgut was elected . the Society's delegate to the forthcoming Zionist Con-
ference, and a hearty vote of thanks to Dr. Olsvanger and to the host and hostess terminated a pleasant evening .
The Society is at present engaged upon the work of calling in all outstanding donations to the Keren Hayeso 1, and hopes to be able to remit them all prior to the forthcoming Conference.

The local Jewish ladies, though few in number, have formed themselves into a committee to work for the Jewish orphans. The committee consists of:- Miss Polly Lewin, and Mesdames I. Shakinovsky, R.
Salkinder, D. Tobachowitz and M. Bobrow, with Mr.
David Salkinder as secretary. They organised a bridge drive which was held at the Hutchinson on December 5, and proved a great financial and social success. All praise is due to the devotion with which the committee and secretary carried out their numerous duties, notably in the supply and serving of the refreshments. A
