THES.A. JEWISH CHRONICLE.
In and Around the Peninsula.
-. Mrs. Gluckman and the Bnoth Zion.
The Bnoi.h Zion Association were " At Home" on Tuesday, 15th inst.. at "Arnville,"
O:ranjezicht, the residence of Mrs. B. Berold
"hen members and friends had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. K. Gluckman (member of the S.A. Zionist Federation) and :\1rs. L. Braudo (wife of the President of the Federation).
There was a large attendance and a very pleasant afternoon was spent in discussing matters Zionistic and ways and means of strengthening the women's movement. Mrs.
J. Herbstein presided, and she extended a -very hearty "'elcome to the visitors.
Mrs. Gluckman emphasised that the chief interest of the Zionist Movement seemed to be centred on women's work. The Jewish mother had the difficult task of passing on the legacy of Israel to her children, who were often tempted by the glamour of the unknown, alien environment.
The Zionist ]\foyement was quick to accept women on equal terms with men in all its acth ities, and to-day women were holding important positions in Eretz Israel.
.i\1 rs. Gluckman then outlined the scope aud acti,•itics of the Johannesburg Women's Zionist Society. She had reason to he proud of her organisation and said that the men
v~ne not nearly as active as the women of that city. Thrir societ' had been inaugurated some seventeen yea~·s ago by Mrs. Landau.
It had progressed steadily and to-day it wn.::;

The sixth popular concert of the \Iacca- 1 £'an Gui Id Orchestra took pla<'e at th Zionist Hall on Monday, 14th inst. The orchestra p layt>d 'e y well indeed, and pre- sented the following items: " Selection of Hebrew :\felodies," by Phillipson; Inter- mezzo from " Cavelliera Rusticana," Mas- cagni~ ""Yalse des Fleurs," by Tchaikowsky.
~ Iiss ... Katz delig-hted the audience with her sin~ing and \fr. E. Eberlin gave a fine renderin<!; of "Mazur" by Mlynarski, and another violin solo as an encore. Mr. Harry Garfinkel\; ongs were 'ery much appre- ciatrd.
After the interval, when refreshments were served, Mr. C. Israel staged the popular farce "Packing Up." Mr. I. M. Grusd as Mr. Chugwater was most entertaining. Miss Carlson played Mrs. Chugwater and Mr. N.
Lazarow was the porter.
The concert was altogether a highly enter- taining one. Though the audience was a little bigger on this occasion, still the Maccabean Guild Orchestra deserves far greater support than it is receiving.

A silk handkerchief, put up for American Auction during the evening, realised a sum of £ 1. The evening was a great success and was concluded with Hatikvah and God Save the King.

Mrs. Gluckman at the Maccabean Guild Luncheon.
" The Jewish Problem and its Solution"
was the subject of an address delivered by Mrs. K. Gluckman at the Maccabean Guild Luncheon at the Carlton Hotel yesterday.
To-day, Mrs. Gluckman argued, them was a great danger that our youth might a"sirni- late. Conditions in. the Jewish world were
~o had. 1here was so much persecution and torlur"e, that ) outh. which liked to seek ils o\\n solution to its problems often came to the conclusion that assimilation was the onlv solution in this case. Thev were often le~l to such convictions hecause .of their ignorance of Jewish history and tradition .
