Cape T'own Young Jucleans.
On Saturday, 3rd inst., in the Zionist Hall, the bi-annual general elections took place.
The Chairman, Mr. G. Gitlin, stated in his report that sound cultural work had been done during the past session. More co- operation, however, on Lhe part of members was essential before greater success could be obtained.
The Treasurer's Report and Balance Sheet, presented by Mr. M. Katovsky, showed the Society to be in a relatively good financial position.
A motion to increase the number of Com- mittee members up to ejght wa defeated;
of the remaining motions, the following im- portant two were passed: ( l.) That a sports wnvetwr he elected in addition lo the si members of the Committee, and (2) Thal the Chairman, at Committee meetings, possess only a casting and not a deliberate vote.

Society.
A very successful "At Home" was held at the Talmud 1 orah Hall, Argyle Street, Woodstock, on Tuesday evening, the 16th July. Among the large gathering present were seniors of the Woodstock and Salt River Jewish community and members of neighbouring societies. The Chairman, Mr.
Gerald Baigel, presided, and at the outset requested the gathering to rise as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mr.
Benzion S. Hersch. The news service was read by Mr. H. Kalmonowitz. Mr. M.
Kapelus, the Secretary of the Woodstock and Salt River Hebrew Congn1gation and an Honorary Life President of the Society, then gave a short address. Mis P. Salber, Business Secretary for the Cape of the
"Menorah," also spoke shortly on the
"Menorah."
The principal Sf~ iaker of the evening was Dr. I. M. Hurwitz, who delivered a most interesting and instructive address on "The Emancipation of the Jews."
Ylusical items were render1~rd by Miss Hirschorn who gave a tap dance, and Miss
\h rtle Kaplan who played several piano solos. During the interval refreshments were ~ rved.
Votes of thanks to the speakers, the eniors of the Woodstock and Salt River Jewish Community and members of neigh- bouring societies were proposed by Mr. A.
Kapelus, Mr. D. Lazarow, and Mr. V.
Resnekov respectivel). Mr. Easker replied on behalf of the seniors. A most enjoyable eyening ronclnded with the singing of the Hatikvah.

Mrs. R. Sloman will deliver "A Sketch on My Recent Travels" and Dr. Felix Gross will talk on "The Saga of the Saucepan."
Claremont Junior Zionist Society.
A cultural function took place at the almud Torah Hall on Sunday night. Mr.
M. Meyerowitz was in the chair. Mr. B.
Greenblatt delivered the news service, and r{1ad an interesting descriptive pamphlet on
"Congress." Mr. S. M. Levin, Acting Chair- man of the Cape Zionist Youth Executive, then gave a very instructive address on Tisha B'Av and its significance. With a historical background aptly portrayed, the lecturer described the tragedy of Israe1l and remarked that although Tisha B'Av is a black page in the histcry of the Jews, vet we Jews have learnt very many lessons thi:-lrefrom-above all that dissension is the fall of a people. After the address, which was well received, refreshments were served, and Mr. A. J. Silber thanked Mr. Levine for Ji-kturing.
A conversazione followed on ~eneral topics. Members of the audience took part in the discussion, speakers being judged as in an oratorical contest. Messrs. S.
Wilder and Michael Freedman unanimously adjudged Miss F. Rachman, of the Capt>
Town Herzlia, as the best speaker in the conversazionn. Tht> Chairman then stressed the need for active interest in rultural activity and after thankin~ the visitors for participating in the function, the meeting closed with Hatikvah.
