The last function of the Oneg Shabhos of the sea~on was held last Saturday, and was attended hv a record audience. \Ir.
T. Ffoe presided. Rabbi Gervis delivered a lecture on "The Ramham <lnd hi Genera~
tion."
The period of the Rambam had been a ififfi<·ult one for Je" ry. Sr altered all oYer the world Jews were under the powerful influence of assimilation. Various customs were introduced in Jewish l:ife at that time, the origin of '\\hich was clearly non-Jewish.
In order lo counteract these influences ::\Iai- monides set himself the tas'K of purifying Judaism, of clearing up ddinitely of whal was Jewish and ,.,hat was foreign to Judaism.

Bohrov first addressed those present, giving n few of his views on the Pale5tine of the future. Mr. Friedman then read a paper on the life of Max Nordau. Mr. H. Zucker- man spoke on the necessity of having the Chalutz sporit permeate the Young Israel Movement.
At the previous meeting Mr. J. Herbstein spoke on the "Balfour Declaration and the Mandate " at the residence of Miss J.
Cohen. He provided an evening of real educational value.
A Special Conversazione.
A special Zionist conversazione ( lechovod Chanukah) will be held in the Zionist Hall on Tuesday, 19th inst., at 8.15 p.m. Mr.
Morris Alexander, K.C., M.P., will be the host, and the lecturer of the evening will he Mr. B. L. Rubik, LL.B., who will speak on "Ideals and Reflections."
The conversazione will as usual be open to all, and a special i1witalion is extended to the numerous vi itors from up-country

Orphanage Ball.
The annual Lall in aid of the Cape Jewish Orphanage takes place at the Qu<>en's Hotel, Sea Point, on Wednesday ewning, 20th inst. t\ large committee is working in order to ensure the success of this function which promises to eclipse all predous efforts of a imilar nature. The music will he proYided by Johnny Moller and his Orchestra, and supper will he sened in the mammoth marquee in the hotel grounds. An enjoyable eY~nmg 1s pro- mised.

Green and Sea Point Jewish Guild.
On Tuesday evening the Green and Sea Point Jewish Guild held a play-reading social at Alphen House, Sea Point. There was a fair attendance, and the function was thoroughly enjoyed. The programme was headed by the first of the series of lectures on Jewish history by Rev. Rosenberg. A short play followed, entitled "Op-0'-\fo.
Thumb" by Frederick Fern and Richard Pryce. Special mention must be made of the clever rendering of "Amanda Affiick,"
read hy Miss Evelyn Gutman. As "Celeste"
Miss Fanny Kaplan was good. Mr. Joe Hanson was exceptionally good as "Horace Greensmith," and caused a good deal of laughter. The rest of the cast was satis- factorily read by Miss Marianne Goldberg,

\lany parents and friends were enter- tained by the splendid efforts of the tiny one:;;;. The programme comprised four jtpms. The first was the depiction of the Chanukah celebration hv all the children suitably dressed. Vario~s activities in the school were then represented by a few of the little ones. Thirdly, the presentation 0f a short sketch, "The Legend" proved interc:-ting. The last effort porlrayed a child's hcautiful dream. Special mention mui:;t he made of the lovely costumes worn hy the children.
Miss l\I. Oblowitz, as Chairlady of the Bnoth Zion, gave a short discourse on Chanukah and the work of the Association as far as the kindergartens were concerned.
Miss Rabinowitz later spoke of the growth ad development of the Zionist Hall Kinder- garten, which was attended by forty-three children.
Zionist Socialist Farewell.
A large gathering of members and friends attended a social given by the Zionist Socialist Party on Tuesday last in honour of Mr. Z. Avin. Mr. G. Telem presided.
:Vlr. B. Padowich, in bidding farewell to Mr. Avin, expressed the wishes of all for a pleasant voyage. Mr. Avin suitably re- sponded.
