The annual general meeting of the Wood- stock and alt River Hebrew Congregation was held at the Talmud Torah Hall, Argyle treet, Woodstock, on Monday evening last.

Mr. D. Resnick presided over a large, attendance, and after the minutes were read and confirmed, the Hon. Treasurer, Mr. P.

Marks, read the financial report, wherein he dwelt on the e cellent progress made during the year and the strong position that the Congregation was in, notwith tanding the' fairly heavy increa e in their officials'·

salaries and other items. They were in the happy position of being able to substantially reduce the bond on their property de pite the hard times through which we were all pa:-"li11g at present. There was no sign of depres·•ion to be seen in the balance sheet this year, for which thanks were due to the Comnul' e. without whose efforts it would have I en impossible to achieve the succesJ gained. discus ion took pla fter which the adoption of the balance heet was carried with acclamation.

The chairman then delivered his presiden- tial addre , stressing the wonderful pro~res.

the on gr rration had made in ev ry way.

H pointed out that the Cultural Circle well as the Woodstock and alt River Jewish Ladies' Society had l.een formed during the year under review, and through their activi- tie· was due the formation of the " Gan Yelodim," as also the social and financial · success which had attended the ball in aid of the local Tamud Torah. In conclusion,' he appealed to the incoming Committee to work as harmoniously as the last one, as ouly by doing so could they hope to have the success to which all were looking for-

·ward.

The election of office-bearers and committee for the nsuing year then took place. Messrs.

P. Gordon, D. Resnick and I. Mordukhovitz were nominated for chairman, but Messrs.

Gordon and Resnick withdrew in favour of Mr. Mordukhovitz, who was duly declared elected, Mr. Resnick being elected as vice- chairman. Mr. P. Marks was elected treasurer, Messrs. A. J. Easker, B. Bloch, J. Coopersmith, I. Kalmanowitz, B. L. Rubik, A. Rubin, Dr. C. Resnekov, M. N. Mark and M. Singer, committee members.

Mr. Mordukhovitz then took the· chair.

He thanked the gathering for the honour given him, and appealed to the new committee to give him their help to further continue the good work which was so splen- didly done last year.

After [ urther business the meeting was closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
