STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Joe Morolong Memorial hospital has recorded a total of 51 patients between the ages of 06 months and 12 years with burn related cases from June 2022 to June 2023.
Child burns increase as winter temperatures drops
Burns are tissue damage brought on by heat, chemicals, electricity, radiation or the sun. The most prevalent causes of burns displayed by children admitted in the hospital are thermal and electrical burns. These are burns from fire, flames, liquid such as tea or hot surfaces such as stoves.
The hospital advices that, as soon as a child gets burnt, parents or caregivers should avoid applying anything such as banana peel, toothpaste and fermented mealie meal as they aggravate the burnt area and cause infection. However, the use of cold water on the affected area, with a clean cloth to avoid infection is advised. Thereafter, take the child to the nearest clinic for further treatment or management of burns.
Parents and caregivers can prevent potential burns from children by taking the following precautionary measures;
• Kettle cords or hot pot handles should be turned away from children’s reach.
• Do not leave children without adult supervision.
• Avoid placing candles within children’s reach.
• When preparing a bath, pour cold water first and then hot water.
• In terms of radiation, ensure that children wear hats or avoid playing outside when there is a heat wave.
• Paraffin and other chemicals used for cleaning should be kept in a lockable area to avoid easy access for children.
• Electrical covers become handy to avoid plugs being poked while they are live.
“Chemical, acid, electricity and radiation burns are the most common ones that we have seen in the
hospital. However, we have also admitted children who were burnt by fire, hot liquids such as tea and from hot surfaces such as a stove. A child who has suffered burns needs more fluid intake to avoid dehydration, as well as food with more protein for energy and to help in accelerating the process of healing. Burns can take up to three months hospital stay, depending on the type of burns the patient has suffered”, said Acting Nursing Service Manager, Rapelang Mekwe.

Lucinda het deurgedring na die vierde rondte van die kompetisie met die tema Abstract Chocolate.
Sy het besluit om aan die kompetisie deel te neem om ondervinding op te doen en is een van 47 deelnemers. Deel van die projek was om hulle eie fotograaf, grimeerkunstenaar en haarkapper te reël. Lucinda se fotograaf is Andi van Aswegen, Natanya Smith as grimeerkunstenaar en Anna- Mare Botes Barnard, haarkapper. Lucinda het Vryburg gemeenskap se hulp en ondersteuning nodig om vir haar te stem. Daar word weer op 29 en 30 Junie en 1 Julie gestem en daar mag een keer elke dag gestem word. Gaan na Supermodel SA om te stem.
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Die man wat op 23 Mei in Vryburg deur ‘n polisievoertuig omgery is, is oorlede.

Jan Scheepers (58) is Vrydag, 23 Junie, ’n maand na die voorval, oorlede.
Volgens beeldmateriaal van die voorval, het ‘n polisievoertuig vanuit Markstraat in Molopoweg ingedraai. Die video wys hoe die polisievoertuig slegs toegee vir verkeer by die vierrigting en dan bo- oor Jan ry - wat toe reeds aan die anderkant van die aankomende verkeer van die pad geloop het. Volgens Jan se eggenoot, Malinda, het haar man erge frakture in sy regterbeen opgedoen weens die ongeluk. Jan was kort na die voorval na Klerksdorp geneem waar die frakture onder narkose skoongemaak is. Malinda het toe genoem dat die regterbeen se ligamente by die enkel afgeskeur is. Die hak van die voet was weer in posisie geplaas om twee weke later geopereer te word om die ligamente te heg. Volgens Malinda kon die voet egter nie geopereer word weens die swelling van die voet nie. Volgens inligting het Jan sedert die ongeluk in erge pyn verkeer en kon hy glad nie op die voet trap nie en was meer bedgebonde. Met die ter perse gaan van die koerant het Noordwes polisie by navraag oor die status van die ondersoek van die ongeluk en die dood van die voetganger nie gereageer nie. Die lykskouing is Dinsdag, 27 Junie gedoen, maar die oorsaak van Jan se dood was nie teen druktyd bekend nie. Jan word Woensdag, 28 Junie om 11:00 vanuit die NG Kerk Wes-gemeente in Vryburg ter ruste gelê. Hy laat sy ma, Bettie Scheerpers (88), sy vrou Malinda, drie dogters en skoonseuns en drie kleinkinders na. Die familie bedank dr’s Bezuidenhout en Gert Strydom en die ambulanspersoneel, asook die hospitaalpersoneel wat Jan behulpsaam was. Die familie het ook groot waardering vir die gemeenskap van Vryburg wat

DA doen ‘n beroep op minister van polisie om brandstigting op plase te ondersoek
Die kwaadwillige dade wat ons boere se reserwe voer vernietig is daarop gemik om onstabiliteit op ons plase te weeg te bring.
Dit stel nie net voedselsekuriteit in gedrang
nie maar het ook ‘n wesenlike invloed op die veiligheid van ons boere, hul families en werkers.
Die winter hou vir die landbousektor aansienlike gevaar in deur dat menige plase in verskeie streke geteiken word deur kwaadwillige brandstigters.
Hierdie aanvalle veroorsaak skade aan oeste, infrastruktuur en lewendehawe.
Die geweldige finansiële verliese beteken ‘n negatiewe impak op ons boere se vermoëns om die nasie te voed.
Daar moet dringend aandag gegee word aan die onderliggende redes vir hierdie sinnelose dade.
Die DA is van mening dat ANC volstruispolitiek speel en die regering wegskram wanneer dit kom by die knelpunte van die landbousektor.
Die landbousektor moet deur die regering gemotiveer en nie moedeloos gelaat word nie.
Die staat moet veiligheid en die welstand van die boere en werkers op plase voor op die lys stel. Tydens Bheki Cele, Minister van Polisie, se onlangse begrotingsdebat, het hy versuim om enige vordering wat gemaak is met landelike veiligheid of landelike misdaad in sy toespraak te noem. Ten spyte van die onlangse ontwikkeling van ‘n ‘Landelike Veiligheidstrategie’, is daar reeds twyfel oor die SAPD se verbintenis tot die strategie en of ons boere die vrugte daarvan gaan pluk.
Die DA versoek dus die Minister van Polisie om deeglike ondersoeke te loods in al die voorvalle van brandstigting op plase gedurende 2023. Ons moet hierdie dade met wortel en tak uitroei.
Dit is uiters belangrik dat die kriminele, verantwoordelik vir hierdie lafhartigde dade, behoorlik aan die pen moet ry.
Brandstigting moet onmiddelik stop gesit word, sodat ons boere en hul werkers veilig kan voel in hulle werksomgewing. Die DA is in solidariteit met die geaffekteerde boere, hul families en plaaswerkers en bly verbind tot die bevordering van die regte van ons landbou gemeenskappe.
Die DA neem kennis van hierdie onaanvaarbare uitdagings van ons voedselvervaardigers en staan aan die sy van die boer tot die ontwikkeling van ruim voedselsekuriteit vir al die inwoners van Suid Afrika.
Daar is 2 993 kalwers verkoop met ‘n omset van R 28 135 709 . Die veiling behaal
‘n gemiddelde prys van R 35-78 p/kg teen gemiddeld 263kg. Soos ouder gewoonte het
voerkrale van regoor die land die veiling bygewoon om van die beste kwaliteit speenkalwers in die land aan te koop. Hansie Muller van Outback voerkraal was die koper
met die hoogste omset en het 522 kalwers aangekoop met ‘n omset van R 5 150 165.75 Die verkoper met die hoogste omset was Buks Van Wyk van Wolmaransstad. Die ander voerkrale wat die veiling ondersteun het was Nardus Scheepers van WGM boerdery,
Cobus Boshoff van Langkloof boerdery,Koodoolake Trust, Simon Niemand van SH Niemand & Seun boerdery, Kobus Smit van Morgenson voerkrale, Nikki Coetzee
van Doornplaat Foods, Gert Wessels, Grootbos voerkrale, Hannes Liebenberg en Hansie Muller voerkrale. Daar is ook ‘n speenkalfkompetisie aangebied. Hein en Lourens Coetzee van Hein-Lou boerdery het die eerste en derde plek behaal met Renske Kriek tweede. Atha Zervas bedank elke koper en verkoper wat die dag moontlik gemaak het en almal wat bygedra het om die veiling ‘n groot sukses te maak.
Building contractor Darryl Jansen, recently sponsored paving bricks to Floradene Primary School in Colridge, Vryburg. Jansen was appointed by Naledi Local Municipality to fix and renew Ben de Klerk Street in Colridge. Councillor Freddy Mgida from Naledi Municipality was part of the sponsorship of the bricks to the school. Jansen was a former learner at Floradene Primary School.
The school will use the bricks to pave an area at the side entrance of the school.

STELLALANDER-MADIBOGO: A North West family of 15 is getting a new house, after they have lived in a one-roomed dwelling for 20 years.
Acting Premier Nono Maloyi has appointed a contractor to build a house for a family of 15, who has been living in a one-roomed dwelling for 20 years, said Tumelo Maropeng, spokesperson for North West Human Settlements. The family, who lives in Madibogo village in the Ratlou municipality, were visited by Maloyi and Human Settlements head of department, Kgotso Mahlobo. Idah April (29) shares the room with her three children and various other family members. The family survives on child support grants and odd jobs. “We will welcome any little assistance we can get as a family. We have been living in this room for years, with no privacy and lots of defects. We depend on child support grants and money from odd jobs from local farms. The government assistance will come in handy,” said April. The contractor, Otukile Kgabi of MGT Projects, hopes to have the house completed by next month. Mahlobo urged contractors for housing projects to perform to their best abilities, saying the department has vowed to terminate the contracts of non-performing contractors.

STELLALANDER-VRYBURG- Solidariteit het aangekondig dat hy vir ‘n groot hofsaak teen die regering se planne vir nasionale gesondheidversekering voorberei.
Dit volg nadat die Wetsontwerp op Nasionale Gesondheidsversekering (NGV) verlede week in die parlement goedgekeur is. Solidariteit se kommentaar op die voorgestelde wet is reeds in die vorm van regstukke opgestel en sy regspan is opdrag gegee om met voorbereiding vir ‘n hofsaak te begin. “Ons het van die begin af besef die NGV gaan waarskynlik in die hof getoets word. Die regering se planne om gesondheidsorg te kaap, is onbekostigbaar en onuitvoerbaar. Dit gaan tot ‘n groot uitvloei van gesondheidspraktisyns uit die land uit lei,” sê dr Dirk Hermann, bestuurshoof van Solidariteit. Solidariteit het aan al die openbare deelnameprosesse deelgeneem en het reeds verskeie oorwinnings in die hof teen die NGV behaal.
Die Solidariteit Navorsingsinstituut (SNI) het ook omvattende navorsing in die mediese sektor gedoen wat toon dat die aanvaarding en implementering van die NGV tot ‘n uittog van medici uit SA sal lei. “Die regering het reeds met die openbare gesondheidsorgstelsel misluk en wil nou op nóg groter skaal misluk. Hy het ‘n geskiedenis van mislukking van staatsondernemings en daar is geen rede om te glo die voorgestelde NGV gaan nie ook tot groot nadeel van Suid-Afrikaners wees nie. Ons kan die regering nie vertrou nie en ons kan ons medici en ons gesondheid nie aan hul hande oorlaat nie. Dit gaan reusehofstryd wees,” sluit Hermann af.

STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The North West ANC chairperson, Nono Maloyi, has been appointed acting premier while premier Bushy Maape recovers from surgery.Premier Maape was admitted to Wilmed Park Private Hospital in Klerksdorp, where his surgery was done successfully. Maape’s spokesperson, Sello Tatai, said following a successful orthopaedic procedure, Premier Maape has been advised by doctors to take time off for his recuperation. Tatai said as a result, Premier Maape has appointed Maloyi, who is also Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC and ANC Provincial Executive Committee chairperson, to act on his behalf. Tatai said this is in line with Chapter 6, Section 131(1)(a) of the Constitution of the Republic.

ANC chairperson appointed acting premier of North West
NW Police arrest more than 250 suspects during crime operations
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: In the pursuit for safer communities through execution of various actions, the police in the North West Province conducted high density operations that took place between Thursday 22 and Sunday morning, 25 June.
These operations resulted in the arrest of 255 suspects for various crimes ranging from murder, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, assault common, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal dealing in liquor, burglaries at residential and business premises, dealing in drugs and carjacking to possession of counterfeit goods. On Thursday, 22 June a man was nabbed at a hair salon in the taxi rank of Vryburg during a crime intelligence driven operation by the Provincial Organised Crime, Vryburg Visible Policing and K9-unit member.
The team members searched the area and found 65 mandrax tablets. The police proceeded to the suspect’s place of residence in Vry Street, Vryburg and found more than 100 grams of crystal meth. The suspect led the police to another address where 38 packets of illegal liquor commonly as “stomp” and 29 sachets of crystal meth were discovered. In another operation on the same day at around midday, the team conducted a search at a food outlet at the taxi rank and arrested two suspects
after illegal liquor was found. One of the suspects identified a residence in Mckenzie Street where nine 25 litres and 24 (200 ml) of illegal liquor known as
“Alomo” were found. Both suspects were arrested.
All the suspects are expected to appear in the Vryburg Magistrates’ Court soon. During the operations, 3 123 persons and 1 318 vehicles were searched. In addition, 13 unlicensed liquor premises were closed while 23 second-hand dealers were inspected. The operation also culminated in the confiscations of a car, liquor, cell phones, 96 ammunition, counterfeit goods and a variety of drugs. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena said that provincial management will continue to redirect resources and intensify the operations in hotspots as part of squeezing the space for criminals.

Township art gallery opened
STELLALANDER-HUHUDI: The youth of Huhudi celebrated Youth Day on 16 June with the opening of a community art gallery - The Township Art Gallery.
The main focus of this gallery is to put the spotlight on artists from the communities of Naledi Local Municipality. The organisers said that the event was successful as many local business were present. Kedibone Nkumane, who does crocheting shared her business journey with the local community radio station of BophirimaFM that were broadcasting live from the opening of the gallery. The event was filled with entertainment from various acts whith main headliner the Royal Jazz Band and the other performances were rendered by Morwa Moromiwa wa Poko, Eagle Beats, Oduetse Ditshwele and others. Some art exhibitors at the galley were Kabelo Molebalwa, Aubrey Moprinti Lesego Moncho, Mogaka Creations and Mayedwa Creations. The event was partnered by The Township Art Gallery, a local restaurant, Waterloo solar, Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, BophirimaFM and the North West University Gallery. In die voorste ouderlingsbank sit oom Dries Muller. Meeste mense in die gemeenskap weet van sy gereelde buite-egtelike besoeke by die weduwee aan die bopunt van die straat, wat hy met ‘n agterpaadjie kan bereik.
Skuins agter hom sit Dirk Smit, wat aan sy beste vriend ‘n dooie kat in ‘n sak sal verkoop, omdat besigheid vir hom besigheid is. Voormalige skolier skenk sokkeruitrustings
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: ‘n Voormalige skolier van Floradene Laerskool en Colinda Laerskool in Colridge, Vryburg, Darryl Jansen, het die nood gesien om aan sokkerspelers van genoemde skole nuwe sokkerklere te skenk.
Darryl, ‘n gevestigde sakeman, het Woensdag, 21 Junie nuwe sokkeruitrustings aan kinders en leerkragte van die skole oorhandig. Pro- vinsiale QLTC-koördineerder van die Departement van Onderwys, Letsehego Rampete het tydens die oorhandiging genoem dat dit hulle fokus is om belanghebbendes te mobiliseer om skole te ondersteun om sosiale probleme aan te spreek.
Rampete het ook genoem dat die LUR van Onderwys binnekort die program vir Woensdae sport gaan loods wat die skole gaan toelaat om sport in hulle skoolroosters te inkorporeer. Daarmee wil die department die sporttalente van leerders ontgin wat nie op akademiese vlak presteer nie.

Veerpyltjiespelers vat vas
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Die plaaslike Texas veerpyltjieklub het op 2 Junie ‘n suksesvolle besigheidsliga gehou. Spelers van so
ver as Lichtenburg het kom deelneem aan die pret besigheidsliga.
Die nuwelingespan genaamd Maplotters is Marnel Burger, Jan-Paul Burger, Colin Fletcher en Elmien Fletcher.
Johan van Schalkwyk, Manda Schoon, Elaine Nieuwoudt en André Steyn was gesamentlik in die derdeplek.
De Hoekspan met Almarie Meintjes, Corné Cloete, Babsie Burger en Lydia Bamberger was gesamentlik derde.
Die besgekleede span, Bee Squad het ook tweedeplek ingepalm. Elize Abbot, Ria van Loggerenbergh, Barbara Ludick en Michelle Nell.
Wenners in die ontwikkelings afdeling is die Plathonde met Dian Fourie, Marizelle van Niekerk, Mariette Henn en Marco Fourie.
Die Buffelsfonteinspan was gesamentlik derde met Dewald Janse van Rensburg, James van Niekerk, De Wet Rossouw, John-Henry Fourie en Wian van Wyk.
Henk Bruwer, Bees Strydom, Brandon Dubber en Nelius van Antwerpen is die Axximimspan en het gesamentlik in die derdeplek geëindig.
Die Molopospan met Gerrie Meintjes, Johan Burger, Felix Bamberger en Dolf Cloete was tweede.

Henrico Kotzee(20, links), van Vryburg het op Saterdag, 24 Junie aan die Suid-Afrikaanse stoeikampioenskappe in die Kaap deelgeneem.
Henrico het in die
senior- en o/20-
afdeling deelgeneem
en onderskeidelik
tweede en derde plekke
behaal. Henrico bedank
almal vir donasies wat
dit vir hom moontlik
gemaak het om aan die
kampioenskappe deel

Netball World Cup 2023 fever in Vryburg
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 (VNWC2023) in Cape Town, South Africa will run from the 28th July to the 6th August, and will be the first to take place on the continent on Africa.
Netball South Africa is hosting the Netball World Cup for the first time in their history this year, it is also the first Netball World Cup on the continent of Africa. At the last Netball World Cup, Liverpool 2019, South Africa finished 4th. This years’ hosts
have finished in the top three at two Netball World Cup’s, once at Perth 1967 when they finished 3rd, whilst their highest finish came at Birmingham 1995 when they finished in 2nd place. 16 teams will be battling it out across the 10 days, in the hope they will
be crowned champions in netball’s most prestigious event. A netball player from North West, Elmeré van der Berg is part of the Spar Proteas squad. From 1963 until 1987 the World Netball Championships were played in a ’round robin’ format.
The name of the tournament became the
‘Netball World Cup’ in 2015. The World Cup Netball trophy show was displayed
enthusiasts viewed the trophy in Stella in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District.
On Friday 23 June trophy tour proceedings were held in Hayes Park in Vryburg, where after the tour continued to Huhudi, Dryharts, Taung and Hartswater where the trophy was handed over to the Northern Cape Province.
Schools, residents and netball enthusiasts from Vryburg and the district crowded Hays Park in Vryburg to catch a glimpse of the trophy, that was under strong police guard and to take a photo with the mascot Letsatsi.
Naledi Municipal Mayor Cllr Cliffton Groep addressed the crowd, followed by an inspiration message by the President of Netball SA, Cecilia Molokwane.
“Your background must not determine your destination,” Molokwane said. Some schools received netball kits, whereafter the pom-pom girls of Vryburg High School entertained the crowed with their dances.
