21 DINER-DANSANT AT THE

r

RLTON.

In Aid of National Fund.

To the Saxonwold branch of the Women's Zionist League must be accorded congratulation: for hold- ing· the first big function in the series being organised on behalf of the Jewish National Fund in con- nection with the present Drive.

The diner-dansant held at the Carlton Hotel on Wednesday even- ing was an .outstanding success.

Every available seat and table was booked and there was a distin- guished gathering of Johannesburg Jewry pres.ent. There were many large and small parties and the dresses of the ladies of the smart gathering gave a brilliant colour to the atmosphere. During the even- ing a group of charming pupils of Madame Ravodna appeared in two numbers, specially arranged for them duri:!lg her recent visit here by Madame Espinoza. 'The fir.st number was a toe dance, one which alternated between operatic and jazz movements, and the s£cond was a highly spirited syncopated sailor's hornpipe.

The organisers were Mrs. Mau- rice Franks, Mrs. H. H. Morris, Mrs. L. Patley, Mrs. J. M. Edel- stein, Mrs. I. Ginsberg. and Mrs.

Z. Braun, a:::id these ladies are to be highly complimented on the success of a most delightful func- tion. Outside of accomplishing the tremendous task of selling a

·bumper number of tickets, th work of organising· a function 011

so large a scale in .so successful a manner was no easy matter.

There can be no doubt that as a result of this largely attend~d

affair there will be a substantial sum raised by the Saxonwold branch of the Women's Zionist League towards Johannesburg'~

quota for the Jewish National Fund.
