8. Acronym

The last word formation process in this research is acronym Acronym is formed from the initial letters of a set of words. They are pronounced as a new single word. There is only 1 out of 56 items which are identified as acronym.

Acronym is explained in the dialogue below.

That all are the word formation processes that are found in Call of Duty Video Game. The other two processes are not found in the movie.

They are Coinage and Blending. The characters on the game also do not mention them on the dialogues.

b) Meaning of Jargon

Actually, there are two meanings that is related to jargon as explained by Yule in chapter 2. They are conceptual meaning and associative meaning.

Yet, in this research, the researcher only find conceptual meaning in the data. Meanwhile associative meaning is not identified in Call of Duty Video Game. That means from 56 items of military jargons are conceptual meaning.

Conceptual meaning is the meaning of word that is based of its concept. The meaning is suitable with the meaning on a dictionary.

Associative meaning is more directed to individual opinions of each person. People will interpret with a different meaning about the word.

Conceptual meaning will be explained in the dialogue bellow.

Foley : Great job on those tanks. Private Martin, you've done yourself proud. I can hardly believe... we've done it.

It means that all characters on the game do not interpret the word the say with a different meaning.

c) Functions of Jargon

In this research, there are two functions of jargon. The first is to serve as a technical or specialist language for precise and economical

communication. The second is to promote in-group solidarity and to exclude out-groupers who do not use the jargon. In this particular reseach, the researcher have found 49 items have function as technical or specialist language for precise and economical communication. Meanwhile, 7 items are used to promote in-group solidarity and to exclude out-groupers who do not use the jargon.
