Student Loan Fund
The Student Loan Fund IS a fund of the Umversicy admuustered by the Uruvers1ty and the Union Loans may be made to students when their academic performance 1s or will be impaired by fmancial dilliculcy Loans to aid payment of the Student Service Fee can be obtaJ.ned from the loans officer in the Cashiers Office Personal loans, normally for a sum no greater than $400 to be repaid within one year, can be approved by the Welfare Officer in the Union office

All students are members and the members elect the Coord1nattng group and the office bearers annually The Coord1nahng group oversees the Students' Association between General Student Meetings Thus the organisation 1s a democratic and representative body for all students Students manage and ma1nta1n the organ1satlon and of course the office bearers are answera hie to students The issues that the Association raise and the campaigns that are run are focused around problems that effect students such as the cuts to education, regressive changes to HECS changes to Austudy the threat of Voluntaiy Student Uruomsm and ensuring access and equity tn tertiary education Other issues of general social and environmental importance are also gtven a voice through the Students Associabon
The Students Association has recently employed a Student Rights Officer who is able to answer any questions about courses, lectmers and your nghts She is responsible for helping students appeal agamst Uruversity decisions, and also aids student representatives 1n understandtng thetr roles The Students' Association also employs an Education Research Officer, and a Women's Research Officer to make sure that all of the information used 1n campaigns 1s up to date and useful to all students
The General Secretary coordmates the Students Assoc1ahon and ts the publtc spokesperson for students at Flinders The position also involves representr.ng the students either as mdividuals or as a group to the Un1vers1ty adm1n1stratton Campaigns are initiated by the general secretary who ts always available for student consultabon

The Women s Officer coordinates campaigns of relevance to women These campaigns range from those of safety on campus, to women's health and welfare issues She IS heavily involved with womens groups such as the Women s Achoo Group and sits on a vanety of equal opportunity and welfare committees
The Education Officer is the main campaign organiser 1n the assoctabon, and aids the General Secretary and Women's Officer 10 running campaigns of educabonal significance
The Students' Association also produces a pubhcation called Empire nmes This provtdes a voice for all students on campus and often produces a dtfferent perspective on current issues In 1997 the Students Association wtll be runrung Student Radio for the fust time in a number of years and this is an excellent chance for students to get experience with radio whtlst providing 1nformabve and en1oyable radio programs for fellow students

University Study Skills Centre assists students with all aspects of academic work from essay wntmg and oral presentations to exam preparabon All students can take advantage of continuing academic support and special provts1on is made for work with international students and b1 cultural Australians
The Health Service offers a range of serv1ces to students most of which are covered by Medtcare or Med1bank Pnvate insurance, and some of which are funded by the Unton These serv1ces include nurse medical prachhoner1 phys1otherap1st nutnorust, dentist (checks only), massage therapist podiatrist and health education Normally an appointment ts reqwred but nurses can often be seen on a 'walk m' basts
The Counselling Service assists students when personal issues anse which affect their ab1hty to study or when for some reason efforts put into study are not effective Students approach counsellors for a wide range of concerns 1nclud1ng anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, loss of confidence and motivation, and so on Normally an appomtment 1s required but students can be seen on a walk 1n' basts and a phone counselhng servtce 1s also avatlable
