Procedure

A five member selection comm1ttee will be appointed unmed1ately after the Annual General Meeting of Convocation It will compnse

• one convener appointed by, and from Convocahon Executive

• one of those members of Council elected by Convocation, appointed by Convocation Execub.ve

• one nominee recommended to the Council by the Vice Chancellor

• two other members appointed by the Executive of Convocation

The selection committee will arrange pubhc1ty receive and assess nommabons and make recom mendatlons to the Convocabon Execubve

Advertisements calbng for nom1natlons will be placed in the media and in appropriate pubhcatJ.ons throughout Austrahan universities, SIX

months pnor to the award of the Medal

The closing date for nominations is four months before the Invesbgator Lecture

Final selection of the medahst by the Convocation Executive shall be made at least SIX weeks before the Investigator Lecture All nominees and nominators shall be advtsed of the results

There may be more than one, or no award, made m any one year

Once selection is made the Execub.ve Officer of the FoundatJ.on/ Alumni will order the medal and wnte to the Director of Administration and Registrar requesbng hlm to seek Counctl s approval to affix the Seal to the scroll which will be a standard document agreed to between Convocabon and the Director of Adm1n1stration and Registrar

The Executive Officer of the Foundab.on/ Alumni will deliver both the medal and scroll to the Director of Adm1n1strahon and Registrar for signature and seahng

On the night of the award, and prior to the Investigator Lecture the medalist will after an

2 The award of a Un1vers1ty Medal will be determined by the Academic Senate on the advice of the Board of the Faculty responsible for the degree in which the student IS enrolled 3 A Umversity Medal will be awarded only 1f the

academic performance of a student 1s outstanding To be ehgtble for cons1derat1on for the award of a Un1vers1ty Medal a student must have completed a bachelor degree program of four or more years1 duration and undertaken an honours program tf one 1s available and demonstrated academic perfonnance 1n accordance With the followmg cntena

31 outstanding results must have been achieved 1n the honours program or final year of the course,

3 2 a consistently high level of performance must have been achieved throughout the course

3 3 a special case may be made by a Faculty Board for the award of a medal to a student who 1s clearly outstanding but did not achieve at a consistent level 1n the early part of the course 1f the student has shown exceptional improvement and consistently outstanchng results m the last two years of the course

4 The Faculty Board will rank students 1n accordance with guidelines approved by the Acadermc Senate and recommend a ranked hst to the Academic Senate for approval The Faculty Board must ensure that the student meets a smtable standard consistent wtth the standards of previous years1 medallists to be ranked for the award of a medal
