A course in advanced microeconomic theory, practice and policy, embrac- ing methodology of economics; theories of perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, oligopoly; the structure of Australian industry; the growth of the firm; government policy in regard to market structure, conduct and peformance; theories of consumer behaviour; consumer and household behaviour; influences on consumer behaviour, attitudes and expectations; con- sumerism and government consumer policy.

Economics BI must be passed before any of these units can be taken.

Students taking Economics C in the same year as Practice Teaching must enrol in two of the following unit courses.

Students taking Economics C in a year in which Practice Teaching is not being taken must enrol in three of the following unit courses.

Each unit will be a course of one lecture per week and one seminar every two weeks throughout academic terms one and two, and a research essay to be compiled during academic terms three and four.

ECONOMICS C6 History of Economic Thought SYLLABUS

A study of the development of economic ideas and theory in order that current theory (and practice) of economics may be seen in historical perspec- tive. Economic theories of money, aggregate demand and supply, and the whole of Government and Welfare will be traced from the Renaissance to the present day. Schools and individuals to be studied include the Mercan- tilists, the Physiocrats, Adam Smith, the Classical and Neo-Classical econo- mists, Karl Marx, John Maynard Keynes.
