SELECTION, ENROLMENT AND RE-ENROLMENT, FEES

Application for Studentship

The award of an Education Department of Victoria studentship normally precedes enrolment. In the case of students attending schools, applications for studentships are prepared and submitted under the guidance of the principals of schools. Intending applicants who are not attending a school should obtain application forms from the Recruitment Branch, Education Department, Treasury Place, Melbourne, 3002.

The closing date for applications is usually in mid-October.

Application for University Selection

Students seeking admission to a Victorian university, including those who are applicants for an Education Department studentship, must apply to be selected by completing an application form which may be obtained from the office of the Victorian Universities Admissions Committee, 450 St. Kilda Road, Melbourne, 3004. Full details regarding applications are available from the V.U.A.C. The relevant university faculty handbooks should also be consulted. These are available from city book shops.

Enrolment and Re-enrolment at University of Melbourne and Melbourne College of Education

The procedure for enrolment in the University is indicated in the relevant faculty handbook published by the University. Successful applicants for studentships, whether on University or College courses, must enrol at the Melbourne College of Education. Studentship holders who are eligible to con- tinue a course at the University must also enrol at both institutions. Details follow.

Enrolment at Melbourne College of Education — Students In First Year Students who accept the offer of a university place and students who seek admission to the course for Higher Diploma of Teaching (Secondary) must apply personally at the College for approval of courses and for enrol- ment according to the following procedure:

(a) Students with university places:

Attend assembly in College Hall, Tuesday February 13, 1973, at 9.30 a.m. Arrange course approval and complete College enrolment during that week.

(b) Students seeking admission to course for Higher Diploma of Teaching (Secondary):

Arend assembly in College Hall, Wednesday February 14, 9.30 a.m.

Arrange course approval and complete College enrolment during that week.

Melbourne College of

All students in first year of both University and College courses will be interviewed for approval of courses by faculty advisers before College enrol- ment is made. After approval of course the student must pay the College general service fee at a stated bank and take care to retain the bank receipt- off-fee slip.

Enrolment forms will be available in the registry section of the College.

Completed enrolment forms (with fee slip) must be taken to the registry section of the College where they will be checked and received.

Note: Successful applicants for studentships who are still awaiting university selection on Wednesday February 14 should attend the assembly in the College Hall on that day at 9.30 a.m.

Re-enrolment by Returning Students at Melbourne College of Education Approval of courses for 1973 is to be effected as follows:

(a) Each student in Higher Diploma of Teaching and in Physical Education II in 1972, whether successful or unsuccessful, must consult his faculty adviser not later than December 27, 1972, regarding his proposed course for the following year.

(b) Each student in a university-based degree or diploma course who fails in one or more subjects must consult his faculty adviser regarding studies for the next year immediately after the completion of publication of all his results. Any such student resident in the metropolitan area should report on the day of publication of his last result.

Students resident outside the metropolitan area should report on the day of publication or the day following.

Enrolments of returning students are to be made in February 1973 according to the following schedule.

CO Students enrolling in University III and Higher Diploma III attend meetings in College Hall, Friday, February 5 from 9.30 a.m. and University IV at 9.30 a.m. on Friday, February 23.

(ii) Students enrolling in Higher Diploma II attend meetings in College Hall, Wednesday, February 7 at 9.30 a.m.

(iii) Students enrolling in Higher Diploma IV and Trained Secondary Teacher's Certificate III and IV attend meetings in College Hall, Wednesday, February 14 from 9.30 a.m.

(iv) Students enrolling in Bachelor of Education I attend meeting in College Hall Wednesday, February 14, 9.30 a.m. and complete enrol- ment on that day.

(v) Students enrolling in University II attend meetings in College Hall Thursday, February 22, from 9.30 a.m. Sci(Ed.) II will report on Wednesday, February 7.

Alterations to Enrolments

Students who wish to alter their subject enrolments must first have the formal approval of the College faculty adviser, then use the form obtainable at the registry section to notify any change in the selection of subjects or the discontinuance of a subject or subjects. Change of address must also be reported direct to the registry section using the form obtainable there.

Fees

A student receiving the studentship allowance in 1973 pays no lecture fee, laboratory fee or registration fee at the Melbourne College of Education or the University of Melbourne. Other College and University charges are paid by the student.

College charges are:

(a) Tuition fee, $70 per annum payable by studentship-holders whose allowance has been temporarily suspended.

(b) General service fees.

(i) For students in College courses: $35 per annum. This comprises library fee $6, S.R.C. fee $15 and College fees $14.

(ii) For students in University degree courses other than first-year B.Ed.:

$20 payable when registering at the College for the first time.

N.B.: B.Sc. (Ed.) students may join the College library by paying an annual $6 fee directly to the library.

(iii) For students enrolled in University Physical Education I or II a library fee of $6 together with $20 payable when registering at the College for the first time.

(iv) For students part-time for half time or more $35; for students part-time for less than half time $20.

(c) Field studies fee, payable by students enrolled in College subjects in- volving field studies.

(d) External studies fee, payable by teachers enrolled as students with the External Studies Department of the College. Details are supplied in Chapter 3.

The charges (a) and (b) above must be paid at the time of enrolment, except that by arrangement with the College Registrar, half-payment of the tuition fee will be accepted at the time of enrolment, followed by payment of the balance in June. The field studies fee must be paid in advance of the time of the relevant field study and by a date specified by the head of the subject department concerned.

Note: Variations may occur in any of the conditions and amounts specified above.
