Dear Hornets and supporters,

We’ve made a great start to the 2016 season with 12% growth in membership of our club and good results on and off field ! We wish a warm welcome to our new members. We are particularly pleased to see many new U9s, u11s and Masters players join us this year. This newsletter summarises our successes and has a few important reminders and ideas for how you can support our club’s development.

Pitch Update

We were successful in applying for a Federal Government Stronger Communities Program grant for $10K. This grant will be pooled with

$15K from the Mt Barker Council and $5K from our club to soon upgrade our power supply for lighting. We have a grant application in process to complete the lighting project for $200K (total) with the Office of Sport and Rec which again would be co-funded by the Council $95K and ourselves $5K. We are very grateful for the considerable support that Mt Barker Council has been providing our club with these applications.

How can you help our club achieve a multi-user synthetic pitch ? 1.We have established a facility to receive tax deductible

donations to our club – please consider this before June 30 ! Any donation welcomed. To donate please go

to https://asf.org.au/organisation/adelaide-hills-hockey-club/

2. Do you have a mortgage/about to get one ? Bank SA are running a promotion where if you mention AHHC when applying for/transferring a home loan to them then they will make a contribution to AHHC which goes towards our new pitch. You don’t even have to be a current customer.

Page 2 of 3 It’s that simple, there’s no additional cost to you…no

catches! And it helps the club towards it’s goal! Contact Troy Raymond on [email protected] or 0413 451 169.

Please let us know that you have done this for us as well so we can acknowledge you.

3. Please continue your valued support for our fundraising efforts. Chocolate sales are doing well – please return money by July 10.

The raffle tickets are 100% profit for our club so every ticket sold is important. Please return tickets to Team managers and money by June 26. You can do a Direct Debit for fundraising monies (see details bottom page 2)

The Quiz Night is Saturday July 9. Please book a table using the details above. We are seeking donated prizes. This year we will have baked potatoes as part of your entry fee and movies will be screened for the kids in an adjoining room - a great value night out for families !

4.Continue playing with us as your local club. Membership numbers are critical to show that we have demand for hockey facilities in the Hills, so you mean more to us than any other club !

5.Remind your state and federal members of parliament that we need the pitch finished and that it is important to you. We need a multi-user synthetic pitch which will be used by other sports (eg soccer) as well as ourselves for training and allow us to host home Senior games for the first time in 20 years.

CANTEEN BACKFILL NEEDED

John & Yvonne Ziesing who so generously staff the canteen at Anembo during junior games will be away from July 6 for 6 weeks. We would appreciate someone running the canteen in their absence during junior games on Sunday mornings. Please call John 0419 981 949. Thanks for volunteering !

UNIFORM DEVELOPMENT

Our team uniforms are well due for an update. We are

currently designing these and will provide you with options to vote upon later this season.

GOVERNANCE UPDATE

Claire Stephenson (u9s team Manager and Div 4 Womens team) was elected Club President at an Extra-Ordinary Meeting of the club on May 5 following the passing of our long-serving President, Craig Sinclair. Claire has a lot of enthusiasm to see us through the next few years where we expect to see many developments to our club. Claire and the committee appreciate your support so that we can continue to focus on strategic issues. Congratulations and thanks to Claire for taking on this important role.

CLUB SPONSORS

We are seeking sponsors for the club and would be interested in discussing this with local businesses who share our values :

 Passionate about supporting the local community

 Family orientated

Please contact Sally (Secretary) if you would like to discuss this opportunity further.

JUNIOR UPDATE

Congratulations to all our juniors who competed in the junior championships over the June long weekend:

Matilda Angel, Sophie Medlin, Dylan Stichel, Oliver Angel and Liam Hinze and Caitlin Christian represented our club in U13 and u18 teams. Ben Angel coached the u13 Boys Forest Hills team.

It is a great weekend to meet other kids who love playing hockey, focus on your development with 6 or 7 games in two days and an opportunity to be picked for further player development programs with Hockey SA throughout the year.

Our Under 9s and 11s are well under way now with full sides in both age groups and we thank the new players and their parents for joining us. We hope to organise a social function in the near future for these teams.

We have players in our combined Forest Hills teams in Under 14 B girls and boys, Under 14 A girls, Under 18 A girls and Under 18 B boys. If anyone would like to take a photo of a game and do a short write up for the Courier your help would be welcome. The deadline is 9am Mondays: email to [email protected]

Keep an eye on The Courier as you never know when your name might be in it next!

PREMIER LEAGUE FRIDAY NIGHTS

Anna Christian and Francis Wirthensohn (FROM OUR CLUB) are playing Premier League hockey in the Forestville teams this season. This Friday night (17th June) they will be playing at the State Hockey Centre at Gepps Cross: the men's team plays at 6.30pm and the women at 8.15pm. Join us to watch what promise to be high standard matches – this is a great opportunity to show kids what they can aim for and develop their understanding of positional play and tactics.

CLUB HOODIES

Are you wearing our beautiful club Hoodie yet ? Not only are they comfortable but they are an important reminder to our local community that Hockey is played in

the Hills. They are very affordable at $55. Please see the attached order form.

Best wishes Sally Fisher
