To safely control the use of the gas at such pressures, a pressure-reducing valve is fitted to the stop valve on the gas tube, and, when properly regulated, automatically checks the flow of gas except below a given pressure. The pressure reducing valve plays an important role in the safety of the cylinder, requires careful attention, and, once set to the working pressure, should not be changed without good reason. Such tests should be carried out from time to time for creep, and the accuracy of the gauge should be tested by comparison with the blow-off of the safety valve.
Neglecting the safety valve can have serious results; most accidents with gas cylinders are due to the valve being stuck in the seat. Pitting of the tinned surfaces during cleaning operations shall be watched for and its presence immediately reported to the inspector.
PART IV.-INSPECTION, ETC., OF MACHINERY
For inspection of a report pursuant to section 10 (1) of the Acts, a search fee of $3.00 shall be paid. For the testing of each pressure gauge and the issuance of a Certificate by the testing officer, a fee of $4.00 shall be paid to the Chief Inspector. Fees for inspection of machinery shall be paid by the owner of the machinery to the Chief Inspector immediately after completion of the inspection in accordance with the following scale, namely:-. a).
