ADDITIONAL RULES FOR SELECTION AND STATUS FOR THE DIPLOMA OF

TECHNICAL TEACHING

Pursuant to Article 7 of the Education Regulations, no candidate may receive more than 107 credits. 34; fully qualified for promotion to all grades" as defined by the Victorian Teachers Tribunal, and who has completed an initial teacher preparation course at the Technical Teachers College or the State College of Victoria at Hawthorn, may receive 99 credit towards the degree; .

INTEGRATED MODES

INTEGRATED PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE LEVEL TEACHERS

The teaching experience takes place over two years as for other Technical Teaching Diploma students.

STAGED PROGRAM MODE

SUBJECT-BASED MODE—SUBJECT DETAILS Principles and Methods of Teaching

Four hours a week in the first year and three hours a week in the second year. Specialized audiovisual training is available in open access in the media center of the Institute. For students whose particular curriculum area is taught at both secondary and TAFE level (eg Forms 1-5 and Apprenticeships), study may focus on secondary level in year one and TAFE level in year two.

For all trainees, including those who have mastered forms of academic writing, to use language to process and understand the complexities they encounter in teaching, and to master the specific language ways of schools and teaching. Appreciate that language serves a more fundamental purpose than communication; that it is an instrument of thought that gives access to ideas and feelings that could not be reached in any other way. This unit is designed for students interested in developing literacy skills in technical subjects. It aims to develop critical approaches to existing teaching materials based on their suitability for different language levels. It also aims to develop the skills necessary for the preparation of teaching materials in the field of technology.

This program was designed for apprentice teachers or students with certificates in the fields of construction, furniture making, engineering studies, sheet metal, clothing and textiles, printing, painting and decoration, writing and jewelry. It focuses specifically on the place of nature education in the entire school curriculum and on the appropriate knowledge and skills to engage in this activity. The content is intended for sports teachers in secondary technical schools or in a parallel situation outside the school curriculum.

The program focuses on the participants' real situation and encourages the application of various techniques to gather relevant information regarding an aspect of the subject curriculum. Applied projects are an integral part of the course and are designed to enable an evaluation to be designed and implemented. It has been developed to provide participants with a variety of studies that will be relevant to both their technical and teaching needs and to enable them to acquire the skills associated with: i) the latest theory and practice of their base and extensive trade/technical background;. ii) the exploration and utilization of resources;. iii) expanding their industrial experience and exploring the teaching strategies associated with it.

Assessment

If the candidate's program of study for the supplementary component includes an approved investigation and report, the assessment of this element will be based on the quality of the report and any additional requirements (such as a test or oral examination) that may be prescribed in addition to the report. Where the supplementary component study program includes credits for studies assessed by another institution, the assessment conditions will be the same as those applicable to the relevant examining institution. For elements checked by the Institute, results will be awarded in only two grades, pass and fail.

REGULATION

Candidates are awarded credit points for successful completion of prescribed or approved studies towards the diploma:. To qualify for the diploma, a candidate must a) participate in prescribed teaching hours and other activities to the faculty's satisfaction. Candidates on admission can apply with documentation for the award of credit points for previously completed studies.

GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION

Included in this course is a Learning to Teach contract that identifies and develops the skills of planning, implementing and evaluating learning experiences. Details of the Teaching Experience program can be found in the "Teaching Experience" booklet, which is provided to all people enrolled at the start of the course. Course programs are designed based on the developmental issues of the person taking teacher training.

1.5 "the Course" means a course approved by the Senate of the State College of Victoria for the Graduate Diploma in Education at the Hawthorn Institute of Education. There is a Graduate Diploma in Education which is only awarded in one degree. a) The course and the conditions under which it can be taken are prescribed by the faculty from time to time and published in the Institute Manual or in one or more supplements thereto. To be eligible for the Graduate Diploma, an applicant must:. a) participate to the satisfaction of the Faculty in the classes and other activities prescribed for the course; and (b) achieve a level that is satisfactory to the Faculty as prescribed. practical, written and other work.

GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATIONAL

1.5 "course" refers to a course approved by the Provisional Senate of the State College of Victoria for the Graduate Diploma in Educational Administration at the Hawthorn Institute of Education. To qualify for the Graduate Degree, a candidate must (a) to the satisfaction of the Faculty attend classes. When a candidate, having completed the course, has failed to qualify for the Graduate Diploma of the Faculty.

GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION

However, the viability of offering parts of the course at venues in non-metropolitan areas of Victoria is currently being explored. The main areas of graphic communication are grouped into three sections — Graphic Communication Skills 1A, 1B and 1C. In general, the courses are aimed at further developing the level of understanding of the nature and purpose of graphic communication in each participant and improving the effectiveness of classroom teaching and study programs in this aspect of education.

In all areas of the course, participants will be encouraged to apply what they have learned in their educational practice and bring back to the course for discussion and analysis issues that have arisen during their practice. SUPPLY, PRODUCTION AND UTILIZATION OF RESOURCES

THE LIBRARY (Floor 3)

Programs for the effective use of the Library and its resources are offered to all incoming students. Specialized bibliographies and indexes have been compiled to meet the current and ongoing needs of the Institute and in response to specific staff requests. It is planned to develop the current awareness service through in-country access to AUSINET (Australian Information Network) and overseas database systems.

MEDIA UNIT

To assist with the development of off-campus courses by producing elements of courses such as video-recorded lectures, audio tape, and teaching notes. To assist in the promotion of Institute courses both nationally and internationally through the production of video tapes, audio slide units and booklets. To assist in the production of teaching/learning materials that will be suitable for technical education.

MEDIA EDUCATION UNIT

To conduct courses in instructional technology, instructional design, individualized learning and media education as required in institute courses. Provide media production services to meet the needs of the Institute through skilled and experienced personnel and adequate production facilities. These may include a series of two-day workshops on topics such as using the videoportapak, 35mm photography, slide production and overhead transparencies production.

MEDIA PRODUCTION UNIT

These equipment include all types of film and film projectors, sound reproduction and reproduction equipment, spirit and ink duplicators, slide production and reproduction equipment, thermal photocopiers and basic television recorders and editors.

In 1954 the Training Center was granted the status of a College of Technical Teachers and the first headmaster was appointed in April 1955. Considerable expansion followed and in 1968 plans were developed to build the first Specialist College of Technical Teachers in Australia . As a Technical Teachers' College, the College was administered by the Teacher Education Branch of the Victorian Department of Education, but with the passing of the State Colleges of Victoria Act in 1972, the College, as the State College of Victoria at Hawthorn, became governed by the Council its Statutory within the general framework defined by law.
