Nominations for 2010 QCATs random sampling project

Purpose

To call for nominations from teachers interested in participating in the 2010 Queensland Comparable Assessment Tasks (QCATs) random sampling project.

Background

The 2010 QCATs random sampling project aims to improve the consistency of teacher judgments. It will contribute valuable insights into the way teachers make judgments about the quality of student responses to the QCATs. The project involves:

 professional development in the use of the Guide to making judgments and Sample responses

 independent marking of QCATs

 practical experience in the moderation processes that support consistency of teacher judgments.

Information

The 2010 QCATs random sampling project will be held in QSA’s Brisbane office in January 2011, with two days allocated for each year level. Teachers can nominate for one or more of the two-day sessions:

Year 4 Year 6 Year 9

January 10–11 January 12–13 January 17–18

As the project takes place in the school holidays there is no disruption to school staffing arrangements.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Participation, which provides evidence of professional development and contributes to the requirements of teacher registration renewal.

Payment will be made directly to participants. The anticipated rate is $270 per day.

The QSA will pay the travel and accommodation expenses of rural and remote participants in

accordance with QSA’s travel policy (see <www.qsa.qld.edu.au> About us > Policies and legislation >

Travel policy and guidelines).
