The Department of Library Science currently offers a Bachelor of Science in Library Science catering to the University and C.A.E. As libraries deal with the full range of recorded knowledge, a degree from an Australian university or college of higher education in any subject area is an acceptable entry qualification for the course. The basic concerns of modern librarians now and in the near future are: - planning appropriate services for the changing needs of the community; development of library collections (print and non-print) to support these services; organizing collections so that they are physically and intellectually easily accessible; interpreting and exploiting the resources not only of a single collection, but of other relevant collections and resources for the benefit of the community; and managing the whole range of resources, human and inanimate, necessary to provide a modern library service.
