An EFPOS device, Leonie, should be considered for the club to obtain details of costs and other implications to determine whether it is financially and administratively feasible. Prize money for Thursday board games increases to $10 from $5 for winners and $7 from $5 for runners-up, the coveted Mars Bar incentive prize remains unchanged; Affected members will be asked to apply for permission to work with children as it affects things such as functions, corporate challenges and visitors, the service is free and completed online and a register of accredited members is maintained in clubrooms.
Offers will be obtained for security cameras for placement in the club premises and outside;. Some rules are to be drawn up for the bar and it is hoped that the club will in the near future draw up a House/Bar policy. There is a casual vacancy on the board and directors asked to provide candidates for the next meeting.
A thank you letter should be sent to Beryl and Robert Ayres for the donation of the whiteboard; It has been decided that bar closing times will be 8pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and that signage will also be installed at the bar to this effect. Please note that pennant practice is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5pm, so if you can, please come along.
As noted in the last edition of the newsletter, the committee is seeking funding sources for the following initiatives.

Training will resume on Thursday 2nd November, you must put your name on the list each week for Tony to check; This will save him a wasted trip. The Club Championship has started with some good games played so far, can players please remember to put your game times on the white board outside the clubhouse. Len, Wally, Faye and Anne (Skip) won the best first match; they were never going to win the second best because they played against Rob, Beryl, Effie and Hennie (Skip) and we were 11-All in the rain.
Keep an eye out for the many events coming up at the club, a new single entry format for the popular Smorgasbord Games will be tested on 19 November. Teams will be drawn on the day, hopefully this will help fill the event on the day. Club Championship games are underway, check the whiteboard outside the club for the upcoming fixtures.

Pennant Ladders
I have recently re-accredited a large number of national judges and measurers and it has been great to see how well they are doing. Thank you all for the many volunteer hours you give to the sport of official cap bowling - be it at club, regional, state or national or international level. This is the law that caused the BV Board of State Judges and the State Officials Advisory Group (NOAG) to re-examine what was defined as the surveyor's duties.
As a point of interest, very few bowling countries actually have "benchers" and so the duties are not defined in legislation. NOAG has sent out a notice nationally stating that the player/s may, if they so wish (such as when the markers perform an action), call an umpire to make a final ruling. The judge's decision is final. Page 33, Bowls Australia Umpire's Handbook, Marker, Measurer and National Umpire). This clarification was never intended to negate the role of the measurer - it was made to ensure consistent application of the laws of the sport.
If there is no referee available for the day, the skippers must choose a competent neutral person to act as referee. It may well be the appointed meter, who then, for that match, becomes the Referee and then their decision is final. For some reason we have had a number of inquiries about who carries the score card in pennant.
The only time skips would keep the scorecard on the flag would be when a team of 3 plays a team of 4. In that situation you play as if the 2nd is missing, so skips keep the card.

Pennant Rolls
A farewell evening was held at the Club on Friday 20 October, where members said goodbye to Rene Cornwell, a social member who gave her time to many roles at the club. She will be missed by the members, but she is looking forward to being with family in Bendigo. The second farewell was from Michael Ballantine who is moving to Wodonga with his family. He will join the Wodonga Bowling Club to continue his bowling.
Robert Ayres and Wally Mays worked hard cleaning the air conditioning ducts and equipment in the clubhouses. Job well done and should be the end of flying debris from the air conditioner.
