This is Israt Jahan Mim and I hereby declare that I am the author of the Internship Report on General Banking Operations of Mercantile Bank Limited. I would also like to thank Muhammad Abdul Kader (First Assistant Vice President & Head of Branch), Mesbaul Faruq (Principal Officer & Manager Operation), Muhammad Tareq (Senior Executive Officer), Panna Akter (Assistant Officer), Mercantile Bank Limited for saving their valuable time in giving me the information and the opportunity to work with them. In today's highly competitive world, Mercantile Bank projects its image through its customer service.

The report provides an overview of the general banking theoretical aspects of Mercantile Bank Limited and an idea of ​​the services offered to customers. A brief overview of MBL's products and services is provided in the second section of the report. I have tried to detail what I have learned during my three months internship at Donia branch of Mercantile Bank Limited.

The internship period undoubtedly enhanced my knowledge of the Bangladeshi banking sector and the various services offered by Mercantile Bank Limited (MBL) as the best financial institution in the country. To know more about the general banking activities of Mercantile Bank Limited, this research is extremely useful. To analyze the financial statements of Mercantile Bank Limited to assess the financial performance of the company.

During my internship I worked in the branch of Donia Mercantile Bank Limited in the "General Banking" department.

Two objectives, strategic and financial objectives of Mercantile Bank Limited are given below Strategic Objectives-. In terms of our market share in all major market segments, we are among the five largest financial institutions in Bangladesh. We always prioritize our commitment to our valued depositors as their trusted custodian and to all other stakeholders in the same spirit.

I constantly make an effort to behave and respond in a socially responsible manner, keeping in mind that our nation and society care for our environment.

The officer in charge gave me some tasks to do during the practice and I tried to do them as well as I could. Account Opening- The primary function of the bank is to assist customers with their day-to-day financial transactions. The fastest way for a banker to develop a relationship with a customer is to open an account.

The customer must collect the application from the bank to open an account here. The officer starts opening the account as soon as the customer meets all the requirements. In three months, I opened almost 100 savings accounts, 40-50 fixed deposit accounts, 70 monthly deposit schemes, 10 Aporajita Mashik Munafa Prokolpo (AMMP) and 23 school bank accounts.

Most of the customers are not aware of the documents required to open an account such as photocopy of account holder and nominee, a passport size photograph, a photocopy of NID card (both for account holder and nominee), source of income documents (such as a work ID or union letter). Attach stamp: In my account opening form, pay order book and other documents, I have used please open threshold, scan, post, verify, attach, officer etc. Data entry: I entered all the information into the Temenos software after I finished work and entered other documents into the general bank file and register.

Opening Form Serial Number: After completing each step of the procedure, I would sometimes save the serial number on the form in a file and keep it in the store. Improving my skills: During my four years at university I learned a lot from books, but didn't have the chance to put it into practice. The banking industry requires you to be able to communicate with people from all walks of life. I now feel a thousand times more confident than before.

MBL appointed three members as trainees in the Donia department after two months of training. Build a professional connection: During these three months, I got to know a lot of people from different fields and met hundreds of them. Gain the ability to accept responsibility: All work in General Banking is under my responsibility, but block writing and entering software information must be done with extreme care.

I could see the changes in the rate of MSS and FDR scheme even during my three months of internship. Despite introducing many cards, their service is not up to par. Lack of ATM Booths: The limited MBL of ATM booths is a major challenge for many potential customers.

Could not handle "BKASH". Since the bank doesn't really explain the service, most customers have trouble using the mobile banking section.

Findings

There is only one computer in this section for opening and querying accounts, which is insufficient. Because messengers are unavailable during work hours, agents must travel to obtain a signature from their superiors and a printer copy. Customers can misbehave with officials if they are aware of it, but sometimes they are not informed.
