This internship was the last step of my undergraduate studies as a student of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Daffodil International University. My internship has been a very good experience for me because It has given me a chance to understand the real journalism outside the classroom.

At first, I am grateful to Almighty God for providing me with enough patience to finish this report. I would like to give thanks to my University supervisor Anayetur Rahman for his warm hearted supervision and provide me the guideline and his kind suggestions during my internship period and while writing this report.

I would also like to thank the authority of the Businesshour24.com for giving me the opportunity to do my internship in their well-known organization. The experience and knowledge I gained at the Businesshour24 helped me understand different elements related to my study. For this very reason, I would like to thank Mr. Amirul Islam Nayan (Executive Editor) of the newspaper for helping me to join the organization as an intern. 1.1 - What is Internship

Internship is a period of working experience of a student or a graduates offered by the organization for a limited period of time.

Internship program has become the bridge for those who want to enter corporate level from student life. Through internship one can know the real working environment what is very much different from course study.

As competition for graduate jobs increases, students need to think of new ways to set themselves apart from all the other equally qualified and skill candidates. Graduate who have relevant workplace experience tend to be more valued by employers, and this makes internships an attractive prospect.

1.2 - Significance of Internship

Experience is becoming a crucial factor for employers when deciding who gets their foot in the door. It’s strongly advised that students and graduates take the opportunity to complete a period of work experience to ensure they have a competitive advantage over their peers and that’s where an internship can make all the difference.

In internship period it helps a student to improve their academic knowledge and practical knowledge by working on the field and origination.

It also helps to develop skill and motivates the student for being professional. Internship creates the professional confidence to a student for future carrier. Academic and professional life is very different from each and other. It helps to make future carrier.

1.3 - Background of the Businesshour24

The Businesshour24.com is a leading business newsportal of Bangladesh, published in banglali language from Dhaka. Latest Business news stories are always uploaded here.

It’s editor is Dr. Shamrat Naser Khalek, Executive Editor is Mr. Amirul Islam Nayan.

Businesshour24’s head office is at 28 Expo tower, Mymansing lane, Banglamotor, Dhaka.

It has been published since 2015. Though it is a miniature published newspaper but already got popularity.

This section’s association with the internet has added a new dimension. It not only created a new platform but also a medium for interaction between readers and writers. For instance, online readers can easily comment and share a news article after reading it in the online version of The Businesshour24.

1.4 - Supervisor at the Businesshour24.com

While I was interning at the Businesshour24, my supervisor was Mr. Ibrahim Hossain Rajowan.

He is the Chief News Editor of the newspaper, who simultaneously works as Head business correspondent.

He supported me in every ways possible. He has been a great mentor. I've learned many important things from him. He guided me throughout my entire period of my internship.

As an Intern Journalist at Businesshour24, I have worked for more than ten weeks [3 months].

My internship at Businesshour24 starts at 25 May 2019 and it officially ended at 29 August 2019.

LEARNING AND EXPERIENCE

3.1 - Knowledge gathering

Through my internship at businesshour24, I had many sweet and bitter experiences which gave me valuable insights on how online journalism works and how I perform in future. Knowledge that I had gathered during my internship are listed below

How online journalism works:

In the world of online Journalism I was a fresher. Fast, short and less insightful is online journalism that has more chance to connect with readers in a modern world.

Practical Experience:

Writing a news report going on field is very hard task to complete. One needs to have a very good news sense and have very good idea on what happened and update any breaking events or moments .

During my tenure at the Businesshour24 my written news were edited by my senior members.

But later, my written reports were edited by myself as well. This experience gave a boost to my capability of haunting down news and selecting the necessary parts and make attractive, meaningful headlines.

Policy:

My internship also gave a clear idea on how house policy affects the news covered by a media house.

3.2 - Tools and technologies Used

During my internship at Businesshour24 I have to use many technologies for my work. I used PC for my every work.

I also have to use many applications for my work, such as Microsoft word, bijoy bayanno Bangla keyboard, Adobe Photoshop, gmail, Unicode Converter.

3.3 - Special experience

I am a final semester student of Journalism and Mass Communication, Daffodil International University. But during my four years of academic learning, I was not involved any media work or publication. After joining the Businesshour24 as intern, I was writing a news and that is published.

During my internship in The Businesshour24, some incident left a mark on me. One such experience happened during the shareholder's protest against market declined movement. I wrote several reports on this matter. The shareholders were worried about market declining and start protesting. I supported them writing about shareholder's worst situation beacuse of market declining. It does really feel good for me.

4.1 - Academic learning and practical work

There are huge difference between academic learning and practical work. Before I only read what I will have to do but in this stage I have to do practical work about my subject. To be master on a work, one should have the experience of both practical work and academic learning.

Those two things go hand in hand and each has their own importance.

As a student of Journalism and Mass Communication, I have gained lots of academic knowledge in last four years with lot of fieldwork experience. But the practical working situation and environment is quite different from academic learning.

During our academic practicing, we do not need to think much about time. Our teachers have given us enough time to complete our course assignment. But in our professional life, punctuality should be maintained. We know that in this digital era every news and information spread around the world within very short time. We must have the ability to realize the value of real time news.

So, it is easily understandable that there are several distinction between the professional and academic life.

I had done my internship as a reporter in Businesshour24.com. I also work as a sub-editor During my internship. I have written and edited many report about business or economy as usual desk report. During my internship I develop many skills. They are given bellow:

Conclusion

Overall, I think my internship experience at The Businesshour24 was extremely good. I was happy that I was fortunate enough to work with so many talented people of The Businesshour24.

My internship period I earned so many knowledge and experiences that helps my professional and career life.

My internship journey started at 25 May 2019 and it officially ended at 29 August 2019. This three-month journey has not only taught me how to be professional life in a work environment, but also helped me to use my theoretical knowledge in real‐life situations as well and I feel very proud to be the part of Businesshour24.com. Thanks to my university, university teachers and The Businesshour24 staffs.
